IT WAS mid-1969 and Jamaica's burgeoning music scene was enjoying growing popularity internationally. Desmond Dekker and the Aces had broken new ground by taking their biblically inspired Israelites to the top of the United Kingdom singles chart and had infiltrated the United States Billboard top 10.

We’ve got a little over a week before the first kickoff which, oddly enough, happens two days before the actual ceremonies begin. Details… meh. Anyways, I think what we all need is a little Olympic theme music to take us through the next month. A little somethin’ somethin’ to play on “the [...]

Massive Reggae
, posited as all the irie you need for your summer....
I'm not quite getting an early start on the holiday -- I'll work tomorrow and then fly to Mississippi for a very brief visit. But I did leave work early today. I'm relaxing, taking care of some things around the house, and enjoying some music. Here's some Desmond Dekker . Dekker was famous outside Jamaica before Bob Marley, and also sang both ska and reggae. If you enjoyed that, there's more here ....
Don’t ask me where 55-56 is, forgot to upload them! Starts off with moogy balearic soundscapes, think the transition to Yeasayer works good, not sure about the next oriental jazz piece. “Israelites” Desmond Dekker & the Aces UNI Records. (1969) One of the great ones. From “007″ to “Rudie Got Soul” to “Israelites”, Desmond was the first international Reggae star before Bob Marley and continued to perform until his death in 2007.
