“Sometimes you’ve got to let everything go – purge yourself. If you are unhappy with anything . . . whatever is bringing you down, get rid of it. Because you’ll find that when you’re free, your true creativity, your true self comes out.” Tina & Ike Turner – Proud Mary Ike & Tina Turner “Fool In Love” [...]
We've had the live album discussion here before , but the reissue of "Get Yer Ya Ya's Out" has me thinking about the subject again. As a pure consumer item this seems like a poor investment - "Midnight Rambler" is the only real standout track from the original album, I'd say. What is really intriguing here are the tracks from the opening acts, B.B. King and Ike and Tina Turner....

As the adverts always have it - NEW! IMPROVED! VIM! And, no doubt, ZIP A DEE DOO-DAH! too So, Vim is a concept that can mean many things to many people. Over on the Mothership, some people seem to have objected to the idea that up tempo songs automatically means vimminess, but I don't know about that, one woman's Vim is another woman's Cillit Bang. Personally, a toe-tapping quality switches on my vim...
Our friend Larry over at Funky 16 Corners is celebrating five years of F16C with more cool Beatles covers. Head over there and check out two new mixes and four older mixes. Larry has been a guide, an inspiration and a good friend. We have plenty in common, and not just the music. On my wish [...]

Today is the birthday of Ike Turner who was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi. He was a Grammy Award winning musician, bandleader, talent scout, and record producer. He is probably best known for his R&B work as part of the Ike and Tina Turner duo. His career lasted half a century and he played blues, soul, rock and funk. His first recording, "Rocket 88" by "Jackie Brenston and his...
Even after the deluge of Woodstock 40th anniversary commemorations we ve seen this year, a new box set revisiting the Rolling Stones celebrated U.S. tour a couple of months after those three days of peace and music makes an invaluable addition to the pop music archives.
Liv Tyler was a lovely Cleopatra and her son, Milo, 4, was an adorable bat. Her ex and son’s father, Royston Langdon, went as a mummy. (Fame Pictures) Mariah and Nick Carey were angels. Sure beats Ike and Tina Turner while remaining uncreative. (Diane Cohen/Fame Pictures) Christina Aguilera and her son Max went trick or treating in Brentwood in [...]
Firstly can I direct you to this, played on 6 Music by Huey from the Fun Loving Criminals on Sunday and a quite gobsmacking slice of Ike and Tina soul. A 1969 single. Secondly, can I ask the Massive for some help. I (like you I bet after listening) would like to be able to own this track legally, either on CD or MP3. So far it has not turned up on itunes, Amazon mp3 or we7 as available; or Spotify;...
