Stumbled across King Curtis while listening to Allen Toussaint linked artists on Last FM. Really liked what I heard and then checked him out on Spotify - there was a pretty extensive choice of stuff to listen to. In fact it was pretty daunting. Anyone care to recommend any specific albums of his - my preference would be to veer away from the lighter side of his catalogue.

Okay, this is yet another self-indulgent childhood story, but I hope you'll stick with me even though I've told a version of it before. Trust me -- there's a couple of audio kickers at the end that will make it worth your while. So, as I've mentioned on a previous occasion or two, I was one of the gazillion kids back in the mid-Sixties who took a gawk at The Beatles on TV and thought, hey, that looks...
As a songwriter and producer Luther Dixon was responsible for some of the most memorable songs of the late 1950s and early 1960s. He co-wrote 16 Candles, a hit for the Crests and also helped to write Soul Serenade, an outstanding hit for the rhythm and blues saxophonist King Curtis. Boys, a song he co-wrote for the vocal group he was most closely associated with, the Shirelles, was covered by the Beatles...

It's a touching moment, increasingly familiar to fans watching the E Street Band make its entrance: As the audience howls in anticipation and the rest of the band stands at the ready, Bruce Springsteen gently and lovingly helps Clarence Clemons walk to his saxophone at the front of the stage.

Oh, Captain Lou, pro wresting weeps for you this saddest of all days. Born in 1933, Louis Vincent Albano would in time become a WWF Hall-of-Famer after leading 15 different tag teams to their championship belts along with four singles wrestlers. Along the way and against all odds, he made rubber bands in the face and Cindy Lauper cool before shuffling off this mortal coil earlier today. A quick roster,...
