I watched Greg Mottola's Adventureland the other day and found it to be a pleasant and enjoyable movie, but with one big flaw: It just wasn't '80s enough. Perhaps if I had watched it on a pan and scan TV with washed out colours I would have liked it more, but I couldn't shake the feeling the entire time that it just didn't feel right. The film is set in the 1980s, and yet the film itself doesn't seem...

Pleasant surprises are rare in this day & age, but I have to say, one of the nice things about having one of these nifty music blogs, is that you tend to get pleasantly surprised on a fairly regular basis. This is exactly what happened when I listened to CFCF's Continent for the first time a little while ago. I knew nothing about him, other than that he was a Montreal DJ, and I'd seen his name...

The newest list of possible inductees into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame leaves out some who've been nominated but failed to gain entry in the past (Chic, Beastie Boys) and firmly snubs some big names who would have...

Animotion released their 2nd album ' Strange Behavior' in 1986. Session keyboardist Greg Smith, who had played on the band's debut, became an official member of the band prior to the recording of the follow-up album, 'Strange Behavior', which also saw Jim Blair replacing O'Brien on the drum kit. While several singles were released from this album, its success paled in comparison to the debut as it...

Animotion originally had six members, four of whom (lead singler Astrid Plane, keyboardist Paul Antonelli, bassist Charles Ottavio, and drummer Frenchy O'Brien) had originally been members of the band Red Zone. After the demise of that band, the four aforementioned members set about creating a new group. Lead singer / guitarist Bill Wadhams joined soon thereafter to co-front the new band with Plane....

'Obsession' is a 1985 song recorded by New Wave synth-dance group Animotion. The song hit number six in the Uited states, and number five in the United Kingdom in early 1985, helped by a distinct video that received heavy rotation on MTV. The song was originally written and recorded as a duet by songwriter Holly Knight and musician Michael Des barres in 1983, although the recording did not perform...

Rex Aquarium - Remember 2003 Rex Aquarium were an LA band that seemed to be poised for success in 2004. They had broken out locally and their song "Alicia" was hotly tipped by the press. The song was indeed one of the highlights of their uneven debut. However, the band's second album sank with barely a trace and the bank broke up a few years later. Like many LA bands, Rex Aquarium had members...

Filed under: Reality-Free , Comic-Con One of Marvel's upcoming projects is a new direct-to-DVD animated movie called Planet Hulk. It's based on the comic story of the same name. It looks to be a pretty faithful adaption. I have read the original story and thought was good. It's a huge story, though, and I doubt they'll fit all the details in a 90-minute movie (or however long it is). If the DVD has...

A couple of weeks ago, I was going through some boxes that I have in storage, and I came across a stash of cassette tapes that were just collecting dust. Mainly from the late 80s and early 90s, I have looked at them several times over the years, but never had the heart to [...]

Despite the new music he’s made since moving to Portland in 1993, Bill Wadhams may forever be defined by the moment he donned that Roman helmet, poolside, in the ’80s apotheosis (or apocalypse) that was the “Obsesssion” video. Despite some credible pop chops, L.A.’s Animotion never got past that omnipresent hit. Fortunately for Wadhams and [...] No related posts. Related...
