Here's what I played at The Vauxhall Griffin's Sunday Supplement on Sunday 24th January. Quite a lot of Dusty Springfield crept in, and I even played a couple of tracks each from Cerys Matthews, Demis Roussos and Anita Harris. Really enjoyed myself though. The Ballad Of Jet Harris – Apple Boutique 1234 – We Swim You Jump Please Don't Touch – Polly Scattergood I Say a Little Prayer...
At what age is it appropriate for you to start telling kids to "rock on?" Is this conscious decision, or does it just once accidentally, and then again, and again? Personally, I'm 31 (going on 32) and I've been telling kids to, "rock on," for some time now. I think for awhile it was generational, but then that first group of kids told to "rock on," grew up and began telling...
@FireladySnail Did that match rock your boat? Superb! Was watching an hour behind real-time, so didn't get to bed till 1:45am! in reply to FireladySnail # @FireladySnail I LOVE it! Having a game myself tomorrow morning, with a mate – trying to put what I've seen into practice! lol! in reply to [...]
I consider myself fairly well versed in 70's music, especially the pre-punk glam days. Why is it that I know almost nothing about Peter Frampton other than he released a huge album which I've never heard with "Frampton Comes Alive" and he used a vocoder? Is this a knowledge gap on my part, or is he a lost hero? Was he a big deal at the time? A David Bowie or a David Essex?
This new musical was inspired by David Essex’s first album “All The Fun Of The Fair” – and David plays fun fair owner Levi Lee, recently widowed and father of a rebellious teenage son. Danger and mysticism lurk in the future, as predicted by the gypsy fortune teller who is in love with Levi. David Essex [...]

OK - I'm in the mood now - a bit. It must be the poinsettia which cost me two quid from Tesco . So - what shall we choose for this year's Christmas song? Noddy went down well in 2007 . But last year you were very rude about Mud, except for NiC who is a chap with immaculate taste. So - what about Elton? He's a very fair minded chap, after all he's been married to both a man and a woman. And he could...

David Essex released his 16th hit with the song 'A Winter's Tale'. The song is not necessarily a winter song, but rather a lovesong about a relationship gone sour. In the UK singles chart, 'A winter's tale' reached number 2 in 1982. In the Netherlands, where David Essex hadn't been in the charts in 1978, the single did not chart. I have just been reading a fascinating, well-argued piece about why ‘River’ by Joni Mitchell, from her album Blue is not a Christmas song. It can be found over here at Oliver di Place blog. I’m impressed by the argument -but i think you can have Christmas songs where things are sad and people break up. [...]
NEXT year, David Essex returns to the West End All the Fun of the Fair . Co-written by Essex and Jon Conway ( Boogie Nights ), the musical which has already toured extensively, transfers to the Garrick Theatre where it’s initially booking from April 17 to September 5, 2010.
