I've been catching good chunks of quite a few Islanders games lately, which is a bit of a strange thing to say given the roster they're icing these days. But I had a chance in the off-season to chat with coach Scott Gordon , then with the Providence Bruins, and I honestly think he's one of the bright young minds in the league right now. Unfortunately he's not being given much to work with in Year...

Tangible signs of progress under new coach Scott Gordon were hard to come by during a recent five-game stretch in which the Islanders blew four third-period leads. But they finally played a 60-minute game in their 3-1 win Thursday in Ottawa.

Talking about how the Islanders need to play to hold third-period leads hasn't done much good for coach Scott Gordon, who watched his team blow a lead of at least two goals for the fourth time in five games in a 4-3 shootout loss to Pittsburgh on Saturday night.

Scott Gordon's entrance into the NHL hasn't gone as smoothly as he would have liked. His defense has been depleted by injuries, his starting goalie had surgery and will not be back anytime soon, and the Islanders have suffered through a six-game...

ATLANTA - For the third time in four games, the Islanders sat back and watched as a comfortable lead evaporated. Apparently, they misplaced the memo from Scott Gordon reminding them that a hockey game lasts 60 minutes.

ATLANTA - Two of the most successful American Hockey League coaches who made the jump to the NHL, the Islanders' Scott Gordon and Atlanta's John Anderson, met last night at Philips Arena. But it wasn't an occasion for congratulations as much as for commiseration. It's early, but the Thrashers entered the game in last place in the Eastern Conference, one spot below the Isles.

Although the Islanders' game against Atlanta Thursday night at Philips Arena matched the two bottom-feeders in the Eastern Conference, Thrashers coach John Anderson joked that his team was on a "one-game winning streak." But Islanders coach Scott Gordon could top that.

I'm not sure why, but a reporter (not me) asked Tom Renney what he thought about Islanders coach Scott Gordon's system today. Here's what Renney said: "Rough playing it." Then when the reporter (still not me) made a comment about...

This was not the way coach Scott Gordon drew it up. A physical Rangers team stymied the Islanders' aggressive forecheck, scribbled all over the blueprint and spent two periods swarming around goaltender Joey MacDonald while running up a 29-12 shots advantage last night at Madison Square Garden.
