Vin Suprynowicz knows what’s up. This article is from May, 1999, and it talks about the Gray Davis and the Clintons wanting to make volunteerism mandatory. Super oxymoron, but that’s Marxism for ya. Obama’s change.gov mandatory community service proposal is nothing new in this country, and such forced labor is still antithetical to being an [...]

It has served as a starmaking vehicle for everyone from James Brown to Peter Frampton. It went through an unplugged phase that allowed listeners to glimpse their pop heroes in a more informal setting. It functioned as a souvenir for famous tours. It expediently finished off contracts with record labels.

When the not quite 23-year-old Neil Young came to Ann Arbor in the fall of 1968 for two performances at the Canterbury House, he was at a crucial point in his career. After gaining fame as a vocalist and guitarist in the pioneering folk-rock group Buffalo Springfield, he was now a solo artist after drug busts and bickering caused the band to dissolve prematurely.

This well-known Vietnam Era song came to mind after posting the following article today: “Something of Historic Proportion is Happening” (History Repeating?) Somethings Happening Here Buffalo Springfield There’s something happening here What it is ain’t exactly clear There’s a man with a gun over there Telling me I got to beware I think it’s time we stop, children, what’s that sound Everybody look...

Back in 1968, would-be solo star Neil Young did a couple of low-key gigs in Michigan to see if he could make it without his former band, the short-lived but influential Buffalo Springfield. Finally, the recording of this quiet moment in history sees the light of day: wonderfully stripped-back renditions of 'Mr Soul' and 'Expecting to Fly' are interspersed with slightly awkward on-stage banter. Neil...

"There's battle lines being drawn Nobody's right if everybody's wrong Young people speaking their minds Getting so much resistance from behind I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound Everybody look what's going down." Buffalo Springfield As we approach the eve of the election, more college newspapers are standing up and expressing their preference in the presidential race. I'm pleased to...

What it is ain't exactly clear. To quote the old Buffalo Springfield lyric. We're bombarded with "news" reports suggesting Obama has this election sewn up and the actual ballots are just a formality. Apparently the only questions left to answer are how large Obama's victory will be and how massive the Democrat majority in Congress will be. Yet there are many signs, for those who look closely, that...
