For a brief burst in the 1980s, you could buy 'Cyndi Lauper vs Madonna' fanzines. It was a pretty skewed contest because Lauper simply never appeared as fame-hungry as the Material Girl, even though her hits (from Girls Just Wanna Have Fun to I Drove All Night) boasted natural reserves of sass and genuinely fabulous vocals.

In this fan-recorded clip from a few weeks ago, the B-52's, Cyndi Lauper, Erasure, and others come together to belt out a gleeful version of Sly and the Family Stone's inclusive anthem "Everyday People."
