By: Ron Hart It's too easy to become jaded with Nirvana, especially if you went to high school or college during the short period they ruled the world in the early 1990s. The rampant manufacturing of Kurt Cobain's image and legacy by mainstream America has been nauseatingly on par with that of Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and Jim Morrison (all of whom also died at the age of 27yes, yes we all know)....

[Artwork by ALEX FINE] BY JONATHAN VALANIA It all started, for me anyway, at Brooke Sietinsons‘ walk-up loft/hobbit hole on Second Street, somewhere in that OK Corral-esque strip between the Standard Tap and the 700 Club. Even though she no longer lives there, the exact location will have to remain a secret because, technically speaking, L&I [...]

This is an American celebration. That it was short lived, like a July 4th fireworks, is meaningless. It was a cosmic explosion. A transcendental experience.

Your online will is constructed to help your family sort out the disposal of your estate when you’ve gone. Whilst yours may be simple, here are one or two with some quirks to them. Bunny Bonanza, Houdini’s Will ExtravaganzaIt makes sense to make a will. All of us realize that, but actually doing it seems [...]

Peter Coyote is probably best known today for his film acting as well as his narration of various documentaries and nature programs. You might remember him as "keys" in E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial or possibly from his narration of the program The National Parks: America's Best Idea . Over the years, Coyote has amassed over 100 film roles . What is less widely known is that Peter Coyote led...

On Wednesday night, the National Arts Club awarded its Medal of Honor in Film to director Ang Lee and his longtime collaborator, Focus Features president James Schamus. It was, the two frankly admitted, probably the only accolade they’d get this year, given critics’ — and audiences’ — tepid reaction to Taking Woodstock , which Lee directed and Schamus wrote. The two of...

It’s been a few year’s since we’ve heard anything from Joss Stone. We were first introduced to the unlikely Soul songstress from Devon back in 2003 when she released her debut album, the critically acclaimed Soul Sessions. She then went on to become one of the biggest names in contemporary soul. However since then it [...]

We put Across the Universe on our Netflix list when it came out–I’m not quite sure why. When it arrived and we read over the blurb, my wife said “This is probably one you’ll want to watch on your own–unless you think I’d like it.” So I started in, using headphones as I usually would if [...]
