Summer’s over! And I think I’m actually going to miss it this year, because August in Korea wasn’t only tolerable, it was downright perfect most of the time. Read on to hear what we played during the month that was, and chime in to let us know what kept you busy, too. Jody: Played through the [...]

My poll 30 is inspired by many Thai films I just saw and like very much. These Thai films are documentaries about the directors’ own families. So I decided to make a list of my favorite films about this topic. Normally I hate films which support the family institution, because they are usually didactic, and I can’t identify with the characters. But these Thai documentaries are not didactic. Most of...

Some bits and bobs this week, been busy trying to juggle making an effort to get out and about during the kids summer hols and trying to be productive. Looking to join Nominet and get my own tag next week, it costs £400+VAT setup and £100+VAT per year but that means I can then try and catch [...]

Paul Walter muses brilliantly on the reasons why Gordon brown settles on the number 42 for the number of days detention he wants. Personally I think it is because Gordon Brown loves the 1980's legends Level 42. I'm not sure what his favourite single is. I suspect it's their 1983 hit "The Chinese Way". After all, the Chinese like to keep people locked up without trial too. Although, I suspect give...

Despairing of finding a logical reason for this detention with no charge for 42 days malarkey (well, a logical reason other than 'Gordon wants it') I went to the ever-reliable (except when it's not) Wikipedia and it all became clear: 42 is the obvious number to choose! In Mathematics it's the second sphenic number to be bracketed by twin primes. In Science, it's the atomic number of molybdenum.

Saturday was conspicuously warm in St. John's ... it wasn't that hot, it's just that the preceding weeks have been so cold. Noticing that two of the newer songs on my iPod have a thematic link, I went looking for more. Apologies to Paris Hilton. The B-52s: Hot Corner. The B-52s have a new album, Funplex, and pretty much the same sound and look that have served them well (for some reason, though, they...

This song strikes me every time I hear it. Here are the lyrics. Tell me what you think? It's late I know but I can't sleep Peace of mind is hard to keep I saw it on the news today A thousand lives just blown away I want eyes I want eyes Another page in history But the why is still a mystery Won't you come so we can talk this through Do you need me now like I need you I want eyes I want eyes On the...
