Bon Iver releases greatness

In review, 2008 had its share of monumental releases. With new records from media darlings Coldplay and Kanye West, the popular music industry certainly kept itself busy. Other highly anticipated releases included Beck's "Modern Guilt" and Death Cab for Cutie's latest, "Narrow Stairs," which were received with only moderate enthusiasm by the college radio crowd.

Andy Hull & Kevin Devine, "Where have you been?"

Shake It Records knows what's up. On Sunday, Nov. 30, the Cincinnati-based record store hosted a live acoustic in-store session featuring Manchester Orchestra frontman Andy Hull with his good friend and tour buddy, singer-songwriter Kevin Devine. The in-store was a low-key teaser for fans who couldn't wait to see the two artists play later that night with their full bands at Southgate House.

Win Tickets to See Manchester Orchestra

Manchester Orchestra creates music that's is plaintive yet rejoicing, and we find the mixture alluring. The band borrows the nasal whine of glam rock and injects it into a bed firmly rooted in the indie rock that rules the CMJ college set. This creates songs that often feel like they're tripping over themselves with a sense of urgency as they try to convey their own inner truths and emotions through...

Andy Hull’s side-project Right Away, Great Captain! + ‘The Eventually Home’ release

Andy Hull knows the fears that accumulate with miles, having spent the last two years on the road as the front-man for Manchester Orchestra. It is with those fears that he has channeled the second installment of Right Away, Great Captain!, his solo side-project in which Hull continues to tell the ongoing saga of a 17th century sailor who catches his wife in an act of betrayal with his very own brother...

Right Away, Great Captain: The Eventually Home (2008)

New Wax I'm sure you've noticed my unabashed love for all things Andy Hull here on the blog. While I've been a devoted fan of his work with Manchester Orchestra, I'm actually partial to the stripped-down folksy nature of his solo project Right Away, Great Captain! The second installment of his ambitious trilogy album series is entitled The Eventually Home and it was officially released yesterday. Conceptually,...
