It’s takes you off balance when your girlfriend says, “I love you, but I hate your band names.” It’s a tricky business naming a band. Ideally a band name is instantly memorable, easily searchable and entirely encompassing of the ethos of your music. Then, when you have a perfect you have to change it [...]
Famed Pin-up model Bettie Page has passed at 85. The first I knew of her was this exuberant cover to the CD " Sexplosion " by My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult (recommended). Bettie was a positive role model. She was the incarnation of happy and innocent, even when she was posing in SM gear. Bless her. I very much liked the movie about her.
Imagine my surprise when I visited my then-girlfriend – anyone who read my Valentine’s Day piece knows her well – over Christmas break in 1992, and in her car was the soundtrack for Cool World. Her taste in music…well, let’s put it this way: she needed lots and lots of guidance. Before we met, her [...]
Anton Corbijn is truly gifted at routinely fucking up things near and dear to my heart. My first experience with the now-acclaimed director was in college. It’s a long story, but you can deal. Once upon a 1980’s, like most other alterna-teens of my era, I loved me some industrial music. There are those artists who get a couple releases into their career before they feel the pressure from the suits at the label to “have a hit,” and then there are those artists who sell out right from the get-go. Ministry certainly falls into the latter category and their debut longplayer smacks of blatant commerciality…blatant, misguided, [...]
Not to be confused with the Killers, the Thrills, or even My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, rock duo the Kills -- singer Alison (VV) Mosshart and guitarist Jamie (Hotel) Hince -- is back with third album, "Midnight Boom." With it, the two take the group's raw sound and up the ante with the addition of deliciously sparse instrumentation to complement their vocals -- Mosshart's haughty and throaty,...
Yeah, you've probably danced to "Sex on Wheelz" almost as many times as you went dancing on an industrial night, but are you forgetting there was a lot more to My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult?
