I know this is way old and we already posted Ojala's Steve Vai and Santana videos, but I'd never seen the Yngwei Malmsteem shreds video until today, and it's genius. Ojala actually suspects that it was Mr Malmsteen who complained to YouTube and got his account blocked, but the nice people at Wired posted the collection here . I particularly love the way Yngwei seems to be having some nasal problems...

Just so we’re all on the same demented page here, I’m an unabashed music lover. Even if I’m not into a particular music genre, I try to keep an open mind. Well, that is, until the guitar shredders ruined everything. I try to understand music that I can hear, but how on Buddha’s green earth [...]

Thanks to Jon at Guitar Noize for posting this clip earlier! Yeah, she'd look better with a Strat, but in October of 2006 Orianthi became one of our first Strat-o-Sisters anyway because we couldn't ignore her skills. Even in '06, Orianthi wasn't exactly brand new to the hard core guitar geek community as she'd already released an album and performed on stage with Steve Vai and Carlos Santana, had...
This song, part of the 1991 album, For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, is all about living for the moment. According to vocalist Sammy Hagar, he was writing the lyrics to this song late one night, when he heard Eddie Van Halen in an adjacent room ...
Spiritech: How does it feel then when people tell you that you've inspired them to pick up a guitar for the first time? Steve Vai: I mean, it's a great honour to be able to inspire somebody to pick up an instrument and play it. That's a thrill and every time somebody tells me that they started playing guitar because of me, it's a real honour, it's a real thrill. You know, for years I didn't... This...
While promoting his new DVD, Where the Wild Things Are, Steve Vai took a break to wax nostalgic on his days as David Lee Roth’s guitarist. “Back then, we were playing those arenas and it was 80% girls in their underwear,” he says of the band’s 1984 tour. “It was crazy. I was like a [...]
Her name is Orianthi. She was going to be the lead guitarist on Michael Jackson's comeback tour, and at 24, she's already played with Carlos Santana, Steve Vai and Prince.I really don't dig this song (too Kelly Clarkson), but the guitar work is undeniable. Hopefully, she'll have a bright future..."According to You" by Orianthi
This might sound silly but what do you want to do with the guitar? Think about it - what is it that you want to achieve - do you want to impress your mates because you can play their favourite song note perfect? Do you want to sit around the cam...
