This is sick , and even if you can't appreciate the slicksmart lyrics the rhythm of this remix version will getcha. Calle 13 cleaned up at the Grammy Latino awards last night, picking up the five main prizes . Check out this remixed version of one of the massive hits of 2009 down this way and find out why. Also total respect to singer 'Residente', as the first thing he said when picking up the big...
The New York Times : …at this year’s awards, two leading contenders — Calle 13, from Puerto Rico, and Mercedes Sosa, from Argentina — were generations apart but linked by idealism. Calle 13, a duo made up of the rapper Residente (René Pérez) and the producer Visitante (Eduardo Cabra), has brought political critiques, raunchy fantasies and globe-hopping musical...

Toto la Momposina is one of those musicians who would have to work at being anything less than good. Listening to "Tembanddumba", a song in which Totó la Momposina lets her voice stoop thrillingly and then snatches it up again like a dropped hankie, reminds that Mercedes Sosa died not long ago. Sosa was an Argentine, and Momposina is Colombian, but both have championed the folk music...
Calle 13's biggest challenge at the Latin Grammys tomorrow will perhaps come from the late icon Mercedes Sosa, whose last album is up for three awards.
. The driving force behind the nueva canción movement, singer Mercedes Sosa was born and raised in Tucumán, Argentina, beginning her performing career at age 15 after taking top honors in a radio station amateur competition. A rich, expressive vocalist and a gifted interpreter, Sosa was dubbed "the voice of the silent majority" for her choice of overtly political material, and...
Since we arrived in South America, I have been making a bit of an effort to familiarise myself with some of the music here, though I am not talking about salsa or tango. My favourite song to date is the Argentinian Leon Gieco`s protest song " Solo le pido a dios " and I am getting into his compatriot, Charly Garcia. Unfortunately, there seems to be a tendency for Peruvian singers to meet...

Just been listening to this song from the album Homenaje a Violeta Parra by Mercedes Sosa who died a fortnight back. It is a beautiful and haunting melody with life affirming lyrics written by the Chilean Parra in the 1960s. She was a symbol of resistance against the vile Argentinean junta of the 1970s, a truly beautiful woman. If you've not heard the song or Mercedes go and buy it. Gracias a la Vida...
As the real season approaches, the links are increasing, and activity here in PtR, likewise, is burgeoning like Eddy Curry in regular season form. We were treated to (by my count), THREE preseason games the past week, and I know it's not enough to satisfy our basketball cravings. Still, we hope the after-the-jump links on this one will help fill that void a bit. In the meantime, here's the Spurs' preseason...
