Yesterday I stopped by the regular open house at No Space and Cairo (I believe they happen every three weeks). The galleries drew a crowd of well-dressed art types that spilled out onto the sidewalks. For the occasion, No Space had a barn entrance constructed. Inside the faux-barn vestibule, a few farm implements and a rabbit skin were hung on the wall to add a level of barnyard authenticity. To complete...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Garden_of_Earthly_Delights An amazing piece of art, and today's featured article on Wikipedia. I hope I get to see it some day.
In their inimitable fashion, anarchic specialists Mischief La-Bas are giving life to Bosch’s Earthly Delights at the Tramway. Mary Brennan prepares for joyful chaos
Peeping at Bosch is a theatrically interactive art experience featuring collaborations between the cream of Scotland's artistic experimenters under the direction of Ian Smith. The project offers a chance to get 'up close and personal' with the iconic imagery of The Garden of Earthly Delights - and ponder our own position in the painter's bizarre cosmology. What's interesting about this art experience...
Volunteering at Flagstaff’s Pride weekend was a bit rough. It didn’t seem as organized compared to previous years. Apparently there were fewer volunteers this year. Someone and I were transferred from the main beer tent to the ‘annex’. We manned the post by our two selves for four hours. It reminded me of the “I [...]
[Big problems with the shadows on this one. Will hopefully figure out how to fix this shortly (angle of lights')] I bought this Hieronymus Bosch statue in Amsterdam a couple of years ago. It is a devil on a night-chair from 'The Garden of Earthly Delights'. The chair apparently allows him enough distance to excrete the gorged souls, and the little pitchers on his feet symbolise dypsomania. So it's...
June’s arrived, which usually means that I’ve accomplished about as much as I can hope to with my garden for the year, except maintenance and any non-planting work I want to do. When we moved in to our current home, most of the yard was in pretty shabby condition. A lot of it still is, because [...]

Jason at Cephalopodcast (have you checked it out yet') reminded me that Hieronymus Bosch models are available for the mantelpiece. Among them are some of those wild and wonderful hybrid birds. The letter-carrier from The Temptation of St Anthony . Based on a crossbill , perhaps? The Devil on a night chair from The Garden of Earthly Delights . A libel on nightjars ? (The one in the painting has a bunch...
Hieronymus Bosch had a thing about spoonbills. They appear in both The Garden of Earthly Delights and The Last Judgment . Mind you, Bosch had a thing about disembodied ears and Swiss army knives and hybrids between humans and musical instruments, so spoonbills are agreeably normal . But in The Last Judgement , one of his spoonbills* — somewhat more anthropomorphic than the others — carries a human...
