Whether or not one subscribes to the doctrine of free will, it is difficult to imagine that we're not responsible for most of life's little choices. We can accept the fact that we have unconscious yearnings and desires, upon which we act, without this ever impinging upon the idea that we are ultimately in conscious control of our actions. In the 1980s, however, Benjamin Libet performed an experiment...

Ever since Rousseau's posited that the State's Common Will is in perpetual tension with individual Free Will, a state of affairs justifying compulsion, the Left has sought ways and methods to make citizens conform to its collectivist ideas. It should be well noted that this Common Will is of an entirely different nature than the Common Good; the Common Will is a precursor to Hegel's "true freedom through...

For the record-I didn't lose a bet or anything when I signed up for the Underwear Run ...yep, I did it with my own free will. I had actually told a coupla teammates about it last year but wussed out on signing up...this year I figured what the hell, quite a few other Flyers will be there...we're all in it together and it'll be fun... And considering it was about 90 degrees...running in as little clothing...

I've just got round to watching the Seed Salon discussion between novelist Tom Wolfe and neuropsychologist Michael Gazzaniga where they debate free will, criminal responsibility and the similarities in the creative processes of writers and scientists. Wolfe is best known as the author of 'The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test' and 'The Bonfire of the Vanities', but wrote a highly influential 1996 article...

In Henderson County, Sheriff Mark Lumbeck said he and his deputies went door to door to warn people in Gulfport of the dangers of the flood, and advised them to evacuate, but they each left at their own free will. None were forced off their property, he said, and certainly were not handcuffed. For various reasons the gas station found it necessary to remain open a little while longer after their warning....

Our Precentor of Measurements linked to a post over at Pharyngula where the loud and proud (alleged) atheist P Z Myers asked one of his readers to get a consecrated Eucharist so he could defile it. His post was a response to the reactions of a congregation when someone tried to walk out of a church with one. I don't understand his point at all and suspect that he is not an atheist, but instead uses...

1. From Stuart Derbyshire, in a review of Chris Frith, Making Up the Mind: How the Brain Creates Our Mental World : At first glance, the fact that our brain filters and constrains what we can see is a challenge to the notions of reality and free will. After all, if our brain has already decided what we are going to perceive, then in what sense can we perceive the world as it truly is? And if our brain...

Right from the off Cazals ooze independence and free will, given the production touches of their own bassist, Martin Dubka through the brooding electro slanted ‘New Boy In Town'. This makes it easier for their manager and guitarist, Daniel Gallagher to garner the needed attention in order to spread their quaint mayhem. Towards the start through ‘To Cut A Long Story Short' this feral, earnest outfit...

Ranbeer Talwar (Saif Ali Khan), one of the country’s top industrialists, is a loner, not out of his free will but just because he lost everyone, he ever loved. Life turns around 360 degrees when he faces the most uncomfortable situation of his life. In a very unusual court verdict, he is to look after four orphan children. Unfortunately, the orphans hate him and want revenge from him for some reason

Aborted Babies and Baptism Fr. Peter West Priest Associate, Priests for Life What happens to the souls of babies who die before baptism? This remains a mystery. We are free to believe that they are in heaven with God, but this has not been revealed and the Church does not have a definitive answer to this question. We simply say that we entrust these children to the mercy of God. There has been an

Nowadays, most people don't have time for lengthy, grueling 2-hour workouts, be it with work and family demands or simply the search of free time. Well, what if there was a way to be in and out of the gym in less than 1 hour and still feel absolutely worked? What if you could combine your cardio and weights so that you wouldn't have to spend hours on either? Well, I’m going to let you in on a little...
