On October 28, 2008, I predict that Deerhunter will release Microcastle, their long-awaited follow-up to 2006's Cryptograms (TMT Review), on October 28, 2008. The album, to be released October 28, 2008, will be released on Kranky in the U.S., October 28, 2008, and on 4AD everywhere else. According to the last couple sentences, the album is expected to be released on October 28, 2008. Recorded in Brooklyn...
An unexpected surprise from the ranks of Holy Mountain. Considering the band's membership includes Kip Uhlhorn of Cloudland Canyon, whose Kraut-pocked last album on Kranky is decidedly lighter than most of the Mountains alums, I suppose I shouldn't have been two caught off guard. But nonetheless Eden Express' tropicalia by way of burbling Eastern psych was not the sounds I had expected from this combination....
Photo by Shannon McClean As grand as Atlas Sound 's Let the Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel is, American listeners to Bradford Cox's solo debut were at a slight disadvantage compared to their European counterparts. The album has been available on CD from Kranky since late January on these shores, but the European version, released by 4AD in May, came bolstered with a whole bonus disc...
Krust is less...crusty for some | Photo by Elise Thompson/LAist Like many of us hungry Valleyites, our first review of Krust left me disappointed. In a part of town that sorely lacks delicious mealtime options, it could have been the perfect fit. As an unofficial red-velvet-cupcake-tester, I knew I'd probably have to make the trip, but ... Well, East Coaster that I am, I decided to go to Krust just...
Cloudland Canyon's Kip Uhlhorn (Panthers, Red Scare) and Simon Wojan (King Khan & the Shrines) play with drones, krautrock, and the sounds of Angelo Badalamenti on this Kranky release.
It appears there is a second “kosmische musik” period in full bloom around the world at the moment, not so much “kosmische” as in “krautrock” but instead “cosmic”.
I never really got into Deerhunter, so should I expect to like Bradford Cox’s solo venture Atlas Sound any better? I think the answer, for the moment at least, is a tentative ‘yes', although please feel free to encourage me further in a Deerhunter direction. Cox has gone on the record, talking about his new venture as an outlet for ideas that he couldn't work out with a five-piece band. What this probably...
I would probably like this band based on their name alone. It feels like a throwback to less serious times, when bands were out to have a bit of run. Thankfully, it's not just the name that makes this band entertaining. For starters, King Kahn and the Shrines are a self-described ‘12 piece pyschedelic soul band'. [...]
Autistic Daughters here make an incremental improvement over their fine 2004 debut Jealousy and Diamond and, despite being a song-based entity, evoke the soothing drift of fellow Kranky stalwarts like Stars of the Lid.
Today’s Best Graphic In A Press Release game ball goes to Vice Records, who announced the signing of King Khan and the Shrines with the following graphic and an mp3 of the first track of the album, a compilation of tracks previously unavailable domestically. Full press release after the jump. » MP3: King Khan and the [...]
