Every now and then, an album comes along that commands your attention from the first bar. One such album was Chupacabra , the 1998 introduction to New York newcomer Imani Coppola – sadly, too few people heard that first bar to reel them in, thus creating a lost masterpiece. A decade on, and Imani Coppola has teamed up with DJ/producer Adam Pallin to form Little Jackie , a collective that have already...

Stuff The Verve: "Forth" (Megaforce/Parlophone) (rating: 8)It might be assumed that the album's title is a play on the fact that, despite being almost 20 years after the band began, this is only its fourth … Read the full article here
THE quandary of the comeback. It’s a poser which has left many an act searching their souls in a bid to validate a return to the warm glow of the limelight.
“Beatles For Sale” Parlophone EMI Stereo December 1964. The Beatles fourth official UK album release. Rarely can rampant self-regard and billowing emptiness have combined to such vacuous effect as they do in The Verve, and particularly in Richard Ashcroft, a singer so driven by the mere idea of rock stardom that he either doesn't want, or know how, to sing about anything that isn't primarily designed to persuade us of his tortured depths.
The Verve had a troubled late Nineties. A legal wrangle with the Rolling Stones and group squabbles let to a split in 1998 after breakthrough album Urban Hymns was released. Nothing on Forth has the immediacy of Bittersweet Symphony, instead it revels in guitar noise (Sit And Wonder, Noise Epic) and the very downbeat (Judas, Numbness). Many of you may not know that Parlophone is a branch of EMI Records. And we all pretty much know or are not surprised by the fact that record companies have been laying off folks due to declining record sales. Blah blah blah. This is certainly not a "woe is the record company" post. Far from it. In fact, I think Parlophone pretty much sucks, and they are reaping a multitude of bad decisions of late....

My last Kylie post I promise...well maybe for a while anyway... Finally the weeks of waiting are over. After days of being told that there was editing trouble The One finally has the video it deserves and yep, it was def worth the wait . Although not paid for by Parlophone but by Kylie herself (made mainly because us fans were crying out for a vid to be made) and was described as a 'budget' video before...
Late Of The Pier - Fantasy Black Channel (Parlophone)Paul Taylor 7/ 8/2008YOU could regard this is a sprawling game of spot-the-influence, or as one of the most hearteningly inventive pieces of British rock in recent times.Late Of The Pier are a four-piece from Castle Donington who plainly heard the arty stylings of Franz Ferdinand, but chose to gild this lily with the kind of synth sounds Gary Numan...
THIS is the sound of a band giving up on creativity, or more accurately this is the sound of a band going U2 being attacked simultaneously by a pack of angry monkeys and a flock of seagulls.
