I have a low opinion of ABC’s John Stossel to begin with — I don’t have a problem with holding libertarian political ideology (reliant on the myth of free-market perfection as it is), but there is a particular problem with misrepresenting people in news reports in advocacy journalism — particularly when it encourages really asinine [...]

This hit my email box thanks to Jefferson Smith: On Friday at 10pm, 20/20 will run a piece on the youth vote called "Maybe It's Your Civic Duty Not To Vote," in which they suggest that uninformed voters - primarily young people - not turn out to the polls. In talking to the youth group, HeadCount, featured in the piece, it is clear that 20/20 and Stossel were less interested in discovering the truth...

John Stossel snags the forty-third award for the Best Sentence I’ve Heard Or Read Lately (BSIHORL): Everybody talked about the “freeze” in the credit markets, but why, I wonder, were the cable news programs that repeated the credit-freeze mantra pausing for commercials from companies trying to lend me money? He goes on… Ditech and LendingTree still hawk mortgages [...]

The Show: ABC's 20/20 Friday 10th October . The message: young people are too dumb to vote and should stay home instead. That's the thrust of a segment by John Stossel, self-proclaimed "libertarian" and regular contributor to the hard-right's fanzine, Commentary . Watch it here . The folks at Future Majority are understandably ticked, calling the segment an attack on the very idea of American democracy....
