For those of you who don't know, before Alton Brown attended cooking school and became the star of his own Food Network series "Good Eats" and "Feasting on Asphalt," he was a cinematographer. The latest series, "Feating on Waves," sounds like my dream job! If you watch the Food Network, you’ve probably caught at least an episode or two of Alton Brown’s Feasting on Asphalt. The show has been on for two seasons and followed AB road tripping around parts of the US looking for good road food. The show focused on diner-type restaurants and the people in them, [...]

Filed under: Food/Home/DIY , Programming , Celebrities , Documentary , Reality-Free Over the last two years Food Network's Alton Brown has taken to America's roads less traveled in the Feasting on Asphalt series in order to find the little known jewels that were left behind as the Interstates began to rule the country. Along the way, Alton and his crew dined on alligator, various pieces of pig that...

Does anyone know when (or if) the next season of Feasting on Asphalt is beginning? A while back there was an announcement that the crew was visiting the Carribean, but nothing since. I didn't find anything on the FN site,...

Filed under: Food/Home/DIY , TV on DVD , OpEd , Reality-Free Alton Brown is a unique commodity on Food Network. In an environment where most of the action is in front of the stove or above the cutting board, Brown's Good Eats takes us beyond that. Sometimes it's to the origins of the food or the recipe; other times it's into the science of how all of the ingredients of a particular combination of...

Alton Brown fans will be pleased to hear that last year's popular Feasting on Asphalt 2: The River Run is now available on DVD. As a fan of Alton, I thought this was a really fun series. It chronicled his and his crew's journey along the Mississippi River on motorcycle, but most importantly it chronicled everything they ate. While I'm well versed on foreign foods, it was great to learn about some...

Speaking of a new Feasting on Asphalt/Waves (scroll down to my last post)... The folks at Food Network were kind enough to send me a complimentary copy of Alton "Scourge of the Unitasker" Brown's Feasting on Asphalt, The Complete Second Season: The River Run on DVD. It's like they knew I just installed my brand new kick-ass surround sound system! That BMW bike is going to sound awesome coming out of...

I'll be honest that my radar for the "New York" scene isn't what it used to be. Frankly, it never really was , but it's that much worse now that I spend my days in Philadelphia. An example: I used to always know when upfronts were being held. (Click the link to see my post on last year and to read about upfronts if you're not familiar.) I wasn't in advertising myself, but I did have my desk on the...

Last April, Food Network's Alton Brown (and a TV crew) began a motorcycle trip from Louisiana to the source of the Mississippi River, vowing to eat at "family joints." The results now are in a book, "Feasting on Asphalt: The River Run" (Stewart, Tabori & Chang, $27.50). The Minnesota chapter is called, natch, "The Lutefisk Express," in honor of their grand finale meal at Itasca. But along the way,...

Filed under: Books , Television/Film , Cookbook of the Day Today I'm featuring a book that isn't even out yet, so I don't actually have my hands on it and can't tell you about my personal experience with it. But I am really excited for it to arrive, mostly because I LOVED the show that it is accompanying. Have you figured it out yet (as if the title of this post and the picture to the right didn't...

Alton Brown decided to stick-it out with the Food Network and re-upped for three more years. A little militant sounding perhaps, but we are talking about the Food Network. With a the networks campaign to rid itself of the Titans of the culinary world who built the Network one often wonders what will happen next, [...]

Alton Brown , host of Food Network's best show , has made a deal to stay on for three more years. He'll develop a new limited series, Feasting on Waves , which will no doubt be similar to his Feasting on Asphalt . With Emeril and Mario losing their deals with Food TV, it's good to know that Brown will be sticking around. And, no, we aren't related. Brown is a common surname .
