Narrowly edging out some truly old school vamps, James Marsters as Spike of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel fame was the victor in the last round of our blood-sucking MD "Mega" Poll , earning your votes as the top TV vampire . Coming in a close second (and surprisingly beating out more recent sexy beasts from True Blood , The Vampire Diaries and Being Human ) was the most enduring —...
Directors: Lela Swift & John Sedwick Release: this edit 2009, series ran 1966-71 Contains spoilers It might seems strange, to some of you, that for someone so steeped in the vampire genre I haven’t seen much of the soap opera Dark Shadows for, even though it ended some 38 years ago, it still has a loyal following. There is a simple reason; it never aired (as far as I know) in the UK. Now,...
"Dark Shadows" is a '60s soap opera about vampires. All things supernatural really, but vampires are a big focus thanks to Jonathan Frid's character Barnabus Collins. In an interview with MTV's Josh Horowitz, director Tim Burton -- who will soon turn to "Dark Shadows" with frequent collaborator Johnny Depp as its star -- said that [...]

Is Johnny Depp driving a stake through his hope to win an Oscar someday? Rumor has it that the three-time loser ("Sweeney Todd," "Finding Neverland," "Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl") and Oscarless director Tim Burton are aiming to bring cult drama "Dark Shadows" back from the dead. Don't they know that vampire tales are cursed in Hollywood?...
For two blogs in a row at Nights of Passion, I expounded on my personal preferences. Today I talked about my love of vampire movies, books, and tv shows. I think the most interesting thing I've heard in years is the rumour of putting "Dark Shadows" on the big screen. Ah, Jonathan Frid. I raced home every day from school, just to glue myself to the tv for his every performance as the tortured...
Tim Burton announced at the San Diego Comic-Con that once he's done with Alice in Wonderland , his next project will be Dark Shadows . The film will be based on the cult '60s supernatural TV show created by Dan Curtis. Johnny Depp is attached to play Barnabas Collins, the vampire patriarch of the series. With over 1,225 episodes, "Dark Shadows" was a highly atmospheric, spooky soap-opera...
Tim Burton confirmed Johnny Depp’s earlier claims - that the big screen adaptation of the cult horror-soap “Dark Shadows” will begin production in 2010. A few weeks ago Depp said that he’ll be shooting “Dark Shadows” and a fourth “Pirates of the Caribbean” film next year. An executive in Depp’s production told MTV that the film [...]
Listening to The Boxmasters "Modbilly" CD (Billy Bob Thornton). I actually like it! Kind of rockabilly 60s rock. From Eoline ( Both Eric and Bill make the photo list) There's no denying it. Vampires are hot. Fan fangs are sharp, and audiences are out for blood. Forget the garlic and the holy water, we relish the thought of Bill ( Stephen Moyer , True Blood ) or Damon ( Ian Somerhalder , Vampire Diaries ) taking a bite out of us. Even Buffy would put down her wooden stake for these vampire hotties. But lest we...
In honor of the 43rd anniversary of Dark Shadows , I thought it would be fun to revisit 10 of my favorite episodes of the cult daytime soap opera that ran on ABC from June 27, 1966, until April 2, 1971. And if you're into vampires, werewolves, ghosts, witches and warlocks, I highly recommend that you check out the entire series on DVD. 1) Episode 1 - June 27, 1966: Our story begins with Victoria Winters...
On this date in 1966 Dark Shadows premiered . Although it was a while before Jonathan Frid made his first appearance as vampire Barnabas Collins , it was Barnabas I watched it for. Every afternoon I made sure I was parked right in front of the TV, even in the summer when our little back yard pool was a major attraction. Dark Shadows lasted about 5 years. There were some plots I liked better than others,...

I've become fairly addicted to the many Mystery Guest clips from the classic TV game show, WHAT'S MY LINE that can be found on YouTube. Here, from the later, color, syndicated version is Jonathan Frid, the superstar vampire from TV's surprise smash gothic horror soap, DARK SHADOWS. From 1970, he even has his fangs in while answering questions in a swishy voice!
