I have a great mom, but I was always jealous of J.J. Evans, the character played by Jimmie Walker on Good Times . He had Florida Evans, and there was no finer mom. If you were bad, Florida would tell you exactly what you did wrong and how you were going to pay for it. No negotiation. Bu...

There was a woman in my church named Esther who recently moved from the United States to Japan to be closer to her husband. So it got me thinking about women named Esther. The first one that came to mind was Esther Williams . The swimmer/actress turned 88 this month. According to the Wikipedia , "She was National AAU champion in the 100 meter freestyle. She planned to compete in the 1940 Summer...
Filed under: Wacky & Weird It's hard to believe that the dude who played teenage "J. J. Evans" on "Good Times" is now 61, but Jimmie Walker was out last night in L.A. -- and was still extremely grateful towards the guy who made him famous, the show's producer Norman Lear. See ... Permalink

Posted by Bossip Staff Jimmie Walker, from “Good Times,” looks like he’s seen better days. A lot of better days at that. But, it’s good he’s getting some stacks as he performed a stand up gig at the New York Comedy Club. SMH @ him just having to stand up in front of [...]
Or perhaps that should read a head. One of my resolutions for the new year is to eat more vegetables, especially greens. Hardy leaves like chard, kale, and mustard greens are all well and good, but I've been going steady with escarole as of late. I think I'm in love. If you're wondering why on earth I have a photo of a smiling, gap-toothed 1970's sitcom star thrown up here, you are entirely too young...
I have been watching a channel on Comcast called the Africa Channel. I love this station because it shows Africa in a different light. It shows good and bad sides of Africa from a balanced point of view. As a Nigerian-American who is used to seeing Blacks in a negative light here it is refreshing to see the Africa Channel. I mean, Jesus, how many times do one have to see negative shows like Good Times....

I was pretty psyched to see the video for Janet Jackson's new single, Feedback — it made its debut on BET this week, and has been all over the internet, quick, watch before they take the link down again. The video is an intergalactic romp that ends with Janet and co. dancing in what looks like [...]
