Review: Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel

Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel deals with 3 blokes (made up of 66% Nerd) whose night at the pub takes a turn for the strange with some Time Travel-based shenanigans. The film, whilst having a clever script that doesn't tie itself in knots with all its twists - lacks the laughs it needs to make up for the total lack of excitement in their absence. FAQ is better than the recent Red Dwarf...

Image of the Day: "Red Dwarf Galaxy" -Could Earth's Twin Be Here?

We took poetic license and named today's image the "Red Dwarf Galaxy." It's actual name is spiral galaxy NGC 5792 a typical spiral, almost edge-on, with blue spiral arms and some dust features, what is cool is its neighbor, a...

Top 10 Favorite Red Dwarf Moments

There is no doubt in my mind that Red Dwarf was one of the greatest television sitcoms of all time. Originating from a recurring radio sketch, Dave Hollins: Space Cadet, this show about an odd band of misfits traveling through space, was beyond awesome. With that said, I thought I would share with you my top ten Red Dwarf moments, from it’s eight seasons. The Comeback of Talkie Toaster The Light...

Red Dwarf VII

As mentioned in the previous review, Red Dwarf abruptly went off the air following transmission of its sixth season at the end of 1993. A criminal case involving actor Craig Charles and the breakdown of the working relationship between writer-producers Rob Grant and Doug Naylor proved disastrous, and although both problems were eventually overcome (Charles was fully exonerated; Rob Grant departed to...

A nice place to visit.... again.... and again.... and again- FAWLTY TOWERS REMASTERED

I've seen every single one of these episodes too many times to count. Doesn't matter a bit. This is timeless inventive, stuff. The kind of thing that you feel obligated to introduce to the unitiated and invite friends overt o watch and rewatch. The fact that the character of Basil Fawlty is based on a real person makes the show all the more rich. Like Seinfeld and other programs that expertly replicate...

domesticity

The feminist in me, the one who reads queer theory and gender analysis for fun, the person who attends poetry readings where the words “twat,” “cunt,” “yoni” and “vagina dentata” get kicked around like hackey sacks, balks at the fact that I wish I were there to make you dinner when you get home from work. Wish I could watch you clear the threshold, listen...

Light and shadow from distant worlds

Exoplanets are distant worlds that orbit stars other than our Sun. More than 370 such planets are known, and a growing fraction of them are discovered because they transit their star as seen from Earth. The special transit geometry enables us to measure masses and radii for dozens of planets, and we have identified gases in the atmospheres of several giant ones. Within the next decade, we expect to...

Wertzone Classics: Red Dwarf IV

The fourth season of Red Dwarf is interesting in that it is the only one without any major format changes. Some of the behind-the-scenes changes were quite big, most notably the moving of production from Manchester to the far superior Shepperton Studios near London, but otherwise the status quo from Season 3 remains unchanged. The season begins with Camille , starting a brief two-year tradition resulting...

Noticings Everyone has a camera on their phone, but very few of us use them beyond the moments when we realise we must capture a friend throwing up or take a picture of a gig from what will look like a mile away. Noticings is a nice way of having fun with your mobile technology (you can use proper cameras, too) by taking part in a game that invites you to notice interesting little things around you...

Red Dwarf: Back to Earth

By the halfway point Back to Earth turns into an unmerciful parody of Blade Runner . From a chase sequence through a surprisingly well-conceived futuristic Chinatown alleyway to a chilly interrogation of an Asian prop master who "just does noses," it's astonishing how well the show apes the iconic look of that film. We don't get any shots of Lister releasing a dove into the sky, but we do...

Wertzone Classics: Red Dwarf III

Three million years into deep space, the mining ship Red Dwarf continues on its lonely voyage home. With the clearing of the ship's radioactive decks continuing apace, Lister and Rimmer have moved into much nicer officers' quarters and are also now able to use the far superior Starbug -class shuttlecraft, whilst Holly, still besotted with his female counterpart from the parallel universe, has undergone...

More Unreal Modding (Games Development Techniques)

Unreal is beginning to do my head in. While some of the stuff you can do in the Editor is pretty cool (like our Red Dwarf level), all the scripting just seems to be annoying and hugely time consuming. I did manage to get some 'Timmy' Dogs working for my Famous Five conversion. I think Timmy is supposed to be a nice loyal dog, but he looks pretty deamonic.
