A miniature memorial oil painting of Dungeons and Dragons creator Gary Gygax, who passed away in March. Not the best scan; I'll photograph this under natural light later on Sunday and post a better pic. Gary Gygax portrait - Ebay Gary Gyax sent this email to a gaming compatriot last January- Thank You, Michael, All I am is another fellow human that has at last, after many wrong paths and failed attenpts,...

You'll find a lot of people who look down on Gary Gygax, and the game system (D&D) he created - heck, back when I ran a game myself, I not only created a game world, I devised my own magic and combat systems, because I thought the D&D one "sucked". However - I wouldn't have been inspired to do that had D&D not been created first. This article makes an even bigger point - Gygax was the progenitor of...

In lieu of Mr. Gary Gygax’s passing, Gamasutra has an pretty interesting introspective on how D&D has influenced, perhaps even birthed, the modern video game, especially in consideration to the RPG and Simulation genres. It's quite insightful and well worth reading. Registration MAY be required, but probably not. [Dungeons & Dragons: The Pen and Paper Video [...]

Gamasutra editor Alvan Monje has spent time looking into D&D founder Gary Gygax's legacy. Monje's contention is that RPGs and MMORPGs owe a debt of gratitude to Gygax as their basic and foundational structure is based on D&D theoretical concepts, if not actual ones. This past March, Gary Gygax, the co-creator of Dungeons & Dragons, passed away at the age of 69. Gamers and websites marked his passing...

The Temple of Elemental Shite First, there is the little issue of the D&D PC "tribute" called "The Temple of Elemental Evil". May the phantom of Gary Gygax forever torment those responsible for foisting this bit of bloated, overpriced snoreware upon a hapless, helpless, undeservedly innocent public. To say it sucks goat balls is being charitable. Although the graphics, interface, NPC interaction and...

Having reported on all the news in the tech world the good people from Wired have compiled a list of a few popular celebrities and had its readers score them as if they were D&D characters. No, really, they get paid to do this. It’s entertaining, but kind of juvenile. Maybe we should offer them work here.

As part of their tribute to Gary Gygax, Wired’s made a list of some celebrities as D&D characters. Since we’ve been known to do that too, figured I’d link this. Best one is, of course, Ron Paul. Ron Paul 23rd-Level Lawful Good Wizard Strength: 10 Intelligence: 17 Wisdom:17 Dexterity: 10 Charisma: 13 Special Abilities: Can see into the future, but must roll Charisma [...]
