You know, the Coens really don't have the best of luck with remakes, which is probably all for the best, since their original ideas usually work so well. I think I'm just about the only person in the world who almost unconditionally liked their take on "The Ladykillers" (it probably helped that I know absolutely nothing about the original), but now they're getting back in the remake game...

Joel and Ethan Coen are preparing to shoot their own take on the Charles Portis novel that became the John Wayne film True Grit. We've known for a month that the brothers plan to give Jeff Bridges the role of Wayne's character Rooster Cogburn. The drunk, stubborn, eyepatched character won Wayne an Oscar, and I'm excited to see what Bridges does with it. Now we've got two more big, great names to add...
Jeff Bridges hasn't worked with the Coen brothers since The Big Lebowski, but casting him in their remake of John Wayne's True Grit could be a wonderful reunion At the end of The Big Lebowski, the Dude promises he'll catch us further on down the trail – and he just might, given the news that the film's star, Jeff Bridges, is in talks to reunite with its directors, the Coen brothers, for a new...
The Coen Brothers, Joel and Ethan, have gained an entirely new level of respect and appreciation as filmmakers over the last few years thanks to their Oscar-winning adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's No Country for Old Men and last year's box office hit Burn After Reading . One thing they've yet to tackle is any sort of remake, which is why their names attached to a movie called True Grit has gotten a...
"The Dude" as Rooster Cogburn? It could happen, and as if that wasn’t cool enough already, like who’s writing and directing it. According to Variety , Jeff Bridges is in discussions to star in Joel and Ethan Coen’s remake of True Grit . He’d be taking over a role John Wayne made famous (and for which he won an Oscar) in the 1969 original: U.S. Marshal Rooster J. Cogburn,...
