CinemaScore is the audience-reaction research tool of choice for the film industry - because of its uncanny accuracy. Not good news for Richard Kelly, whose latest film The Box has just been awarded a rare-as-Ed-Wood's-teeth F-grade There can be no doubt that Cameron Diaz's new film has flopped. The Box, a horror thriller adapted from a short story by Richard Matheson by Donnie Darko director Richard...

I can tell, Richard Kelly is going to be one of those film makers whose voice is endlessly fascinating but is always destined to fly somewhat under the radar. In a way, I could see his path being similar to that of David Fincher. Yes, very different film makers, but individuals with very distinctive cinematic visions that are destined to have mediocre theatrical runs followed by strong a strong home...

We saw the movie The Box this week. Written and directed by Richard Kelly, it's his second movie since Donnie Darko(now a cult favorite). The Box takes its main theme from a short story by Richard Matheson, also featured in an old episode of The Twilight Zone, titled Button, Button. The Box is in no way a feel-good movie, in fact if there is such a thing, it's a feel-bad movie. It's also a movie

You probably didn't see The Box . I think that's clear. So I'll reference I Am Legend as something from writer Richard Matheson with which you might be familiar. The sci-fi author even wrote some Twilight Zone episodes early on, and his latest film adaptation, Real Steel , may star Hugh Jackman as a futuristic fighter battling robots for his last shot at glory. Director Shawn Levy - clearly not one...

Back in September we heard that Night at the Museum and Date Night director Shawn Levy might be doing a movie called Real Steel, which depicts a world in which people get their kicks watching robots beat the hell out of each other. Then we heard that Hugh Jackman was the frontrunner as the lead role. Now Levy is out promoting Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian on DVD, and he's confirmed...

by James Hansen Pull back the knives! Richard Kelly, known in certain circles as THE GREATEST DIRECTOR OF ALL TIME and in others as an inexplicably successful hack job, is back again with The Box , which should be known as the third film in Richard Kelly’s Melodramatic Menage-A-Trois Sci-fi Extravaganza. With just three movies under his directorial belt, Kelly is three for three in tackling...

Well, it's time for another episode of my largely lackluster feature wherein I rate movies using my own nebulous set of criteria. If this post makes you wonder how many movies I actually watch, rest assured: I really just dredge them up from memory when I need an easy post idea. Aren't you lucky? 30 Days of Night Run Time: 113 minutes Genre: Vampire/survival horror, Alaska travelogue Once sentence...

It's always hard to believe it when filmmakers say they had never seen or heard of another, similar film when they made theirs. Such is the case with Black Button , a 7-minute short from some aspiring Australians made for a mere $200 featuring a well dressed man who offers a person $10,000,000 if he'll simply press a button, killing someone else in the process. Dark Heart Productions, the makers of...
