Congress Moves Forward On Modernizing U.S. Nuclear Warheads

An empty B61 multipurpose thermonuclear tactical bomb is displayed at the Atomic Testing Museum in Las Vegas. A hold on funding to refurbish the B61-12 may cause a delay in delivering the bomb to the Air Force by 2017. JOE CAVARETTA / THE ASSOCIATED PRESS From The Washington Post: The first step toward rebuilding one of the nation's tactical nuclear weapons so it could be put in the stockpile well...

Some lawmakers frown on museum spending

Many see federal money for museums as pork-barrel excess in a time of record deficits -- one congressman says it's like making charitable donations. Supporters say the money is more needed than ever. To New York officials, the $3 million in federal economic stimulus funds they received to transform an old canal boat into a 259-foot-long floating museum was money well spent.

Former Area 51 workers talk planes

Pilot Ray Haupt talks Thursday about flying spy planes at Area 51, including the SR-71 Blackbird that appears behind him in a display at the Atomic Testing Museum. Photos by Craig L. Moran. Family Fun at the Atomic Testing Museum

Debbie says: Thursday was the 64th anniversary of the United States’ atomic bomb attack on Hiroshima, Japan. Tomorrow is the 64th anniversary of the United States’ atomic bomb attack on Nagasaki, Japan. Sixty-four years later, these remain the only two times that nuclear weapons have been used in warfare. To commemorate what should be a sad [...]

Your Daily Photo (You Really Can't Call It a Successful Night in Vegas Until Police Get Involved Edition)

I spent more time doing stuff rather than taking pictures while in Vegas. One of the places I visited was The Atomic Testing Museum . No pictures were allowed inside, and the outside is unimpressive, so no snaps there. Fun place, well designed exhibitions, and definitely pro-nuclear weaponry. None of this namby pamby 99 Luftballons crap. Our arsenal saved (and continues to save) the world from certain...

Atomic Testing Museum, Las Vegas, NV

Yesterday I spent an enjoyable three hours at the Atomic Testing Museum here in Las Vegas, NV. It is an affiliate of the Smithsonion Institute. It does a great job of telling the story of atomic bomb testing. The only disappointment is that they do not allow cameras, hence I have no pictures to show you expect that of Miss Atomic Bomb of 1957. Atomic Bomb testing was moved to Nevada in 1951. Click...

Lorelle on WordPress News: WordCamp Las Vegas Began With Blogger and Social Parties

Last weekend, my world was rocked in so many ways at 2009 International CES (Consumer Electronics Show) and WordCamp Las Vegas. I have so much to tell you about my experience, but you’ll have to settle for pictures right now. The first set of photographs started with a blogging event at CES with Robert Scoble [...]

[CES 2009] Scenes From The Show

I’m not the partying type, so I let Evan and David take care of the ’schmoozing’ part of CES. But when a party is thrown at the Las Vegas Atomic Testing Museum, how can I not attend? The museum was opened in March of 2005 and documents the history of the atomic bomb tests at the Nevada Test Site starting in January of 1951. They’ve got some great artifacts in their collection,...

It Won’t Stay in Vegas Blogger party & CntrStg

AMD, one of our Sponsors here at CntrStg is also sponsoring the “It Won’t Stay in Vegas Blogger party”. The old slogan, “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas,” is not always true. It’s hardly the case when you’re hanging out with bloggers. Take a break from grueling rounds on the show floor to come hang out [...]

Atomic Testing Museum

Th’ Gaussling took a quick trip to the Atomic Testing Museum this week. It is located on Flamingo Rd a few blocks east of the Las Vegas strip. Before entering I was dubious, wrongly thinking that it would be a thin gruel of well worn nuke photos and a few trinkets. I was wrong. The museum is meant [...]
