Bank of America has changed how its "Museums on Us" program operates this year. Last year the bank paid for museum entries around America for the whole month of May. This year they have added more museums to the list, but it is now year round, with the first weekend of every month being free to holders of a Bank of America check, ATM or credit card. Here's a list of the participating museums around...

Back in March we had the Mid-Atlantic Malacologists meeting at the Delaware Museum of Natural History in Wilmington, Delaware. During the lunch break and for about an hour after the meeting I was able to work in the mollusk collection. While looking at a drawer full of specimens of the land snail family Megalobulimidae, I noticed a glass vial with a peculiar object in it. The museum label identified...

The 10th meeting of the Mid-Atlantic Malacologists was yesterday at the Delaware Museum of Natural History (DMNH) in Wilmington, Delaware. With about 40 attendees, 13 talks and 2 posters, this was probably the largest MAM meeting so far. And as usual, it was a lot of fun. Here are the speakers, in the order they spoke, and not-more-than-two sentence summaries of their talks. Marla Coppolino (Southern...

I knew Melbourne "Mel" R. Carriker (1915-2007) from the MAM meetings at the Delaware Museum of Natural History . The 2006 meeting was the last one he attended. After my presentation, which was about the extra space in the shells of land snails, several people had comments and questions. During the break, Dr. Carriker came over to me and we had a brief discussion about my presentation and he suggested...

I usually delete any emails that have "Bank of America" in the subject as they're usually just scammers phishing for my details (and I don't have a Bank of America account anyway!). But I opened one today (as it seemed legitimate) and found an interesting story. Bank of America will be paying for your entry into 86 different museums throughout America during the month of May. The only catch is that...

The 9th meeting of the Mid-Atlantic Malacologists was today at the Delaware Museum of Natural History (DMNH) in Wilmington, Delaware. Out of those 9 meetings I have been to (I think 7), this one was probably the longest and the best in terms of the variety and the quality of the talks. We started at 10 in the morning, took a lunch break for 1.5 hours and then had more talks until a little after 4 pm...
