Charles Gwathmey, the modernist architect who led the design of the Crocker Art Museum's new $100 million expansion project, died Monday in New York City. He was 71. The cause was esophageal cancer. "We are grieved that Charles will not be here to share in the success of the New Crocker, but know it will forever be a testament to his visionary design," says museum director Lial A. Jones....
