If you thought the deteriorating relations between Senator Chuck Grassley and evangelical Christians were just kabuki theater designed to make Grassley look more moderate than he is, maybe you should think again : Evangelical Christians in Iowa, dominant in the state's Republican Party, have denied Sen. Charles E. Grassley his [...]

The House Oversight Committee uncovered some tasty little nuggets while investigating the cover-up surrounding the death of Pat Tillman and the Kabuki theater that was the Jessica Lynch rescue . If the media is so damned "liberal" why was Ron Fournier of the Associated Press sending Karl Rove encouraging messages and telling him to "keep up the fight" when he was lying to Americans about Lynch and...

Finally right-wingers and left-wingers are starting to agree about Obama. In a testament to the attention paid to the kabuki theater of the presidential campaign, the new meme spreading around the opinionsphere is that Obama is running hard to the right and “throwing under the bus” anyone who gets in his way. As Steve Marlsberg, the [...]

Forget the popcorn. Nothing goes with movies like Japanese food. This year I was generously given a courtesy pass which allows me and a guest to attend as many movies as we like at the Sundance Kabuki movie theater in Japantown. As a result I end up eating meals in Japantown just about every time I go see a movie. This Saturday I had a ridiculously cheap lunch in Japantown at Takara . This little restaurant...

Wall-E is is movie theaters today! FINALLY! I've been waiting so long for this movie to come out. I'm heading to the Kabuki soon to get my first glimpse of what I'm sure will be a Pixar/Disney classic. BuzzSugar and most of the other movie critics have given it great reviews, so I have high hopes. Look for my review tomorrow!

Welcome to the wonderful world of Chicago : A Humboldt Park mother who was publicly blamed for her young son's shooting by top Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis has demanded an apology and retraction from him. An attorney for Jessica Perez called Weis' characterization of her an "absolute lie'' and threatened to file a defamation lawsuit unless Weis issues a public apology. We agree with Weis's statement...

It was another scorcher today in San Francisco. The best way to beat the heat? Hit a movie and take advantage of the dark, air conditioned theater, the perfect place to cool off. I'd recommend the Sundance Kabuki in Japantown. They are owned by Robert Redford, and offer a wealth of amenities we're not used to at the movies. There's a cocktail lounge on the top floor, assigned seating, no advertisements...

Bloomberg News' Campaign Notebook (boldface mine): Endangered congressional Republicans are in George Who? mode as they run away from an unpopular president. ... Joe Bodell of Minnesota Campaign Report mentions that Michael Brodkorb, our favorite paid Republican operative claiming to be “independent”, is having a staged hissy kabuki fit over Robin Marty’s post that included a tweak at those conservatives who really do think God uses hurricanes and tornadoes to attack gays. I think we've now reached Stage 3 of Sununu's relationship to environmentalism, taken directly (as always) from the emerging GOP talking points. Stage 1 was: gas is cheap, so stop complaining about climate change . Stage 2 ? Uh-oh, gas is rising. Let's put on our kabuki costumes . But now? Screw the environment, people are freaking out over gas prices, and I'm going to get hammered come election time...

Justin Sullivan/Getty Images Last night on MSNBC, Newsweek columnist Howard Fineman floated an interesting theory about the question du jour: What does Hillary Clinton want? According to his sources, the former first lady has no intention of becoming Barack Obama's running mate. The rumors, the leaks, the tantalizing hints -- it's all a political game. In Fineman's view, Clinton wants to compel Obama...
