From a November 8 Washington Times article : During the debate, about 1,500 demonstrators gathered outside the Capitol to protest the bill. Some waved American flags, and others displayed golden "Don't tread on me" rattlesnake flags. A copy of the nearly 2,000-page bill taped end to end stretched from the Capitol, down the steps and across the Southeast Lawn. Richard Baumgartner, 73, who...

The world was shocked by a shooting at a military base in Fort Hood, Tex., last Thursday, with coverage of that sad event filling the first three pages of Friday’s Post. But a handful of readers questioned why our coverage did not mention that the suspect in the slayings, Major Nidal Malik Hasan, was Muslim (which he happens to be), or that he reportedly shouted Allahu Akbar (“God is the...

By GottaLaff The lying, self-absorbed little death panel-monger is at it again. She really should stick to posing for coloring books : Speaking to a fund-raising banquet of Wisconsin Right to Life , the former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee asserted that if policy-makers don’t believe a child in the womb is valuable, then “perhaps the same mind-set applies...

In a terrific primer for National Review Online, Fr. Thomas Williams, L.C., explains that from a Catholic perspective, the problems with socialized medicine and ObamaCare aren't limited to abortion, rationing/euthanasia, and the violation of conscience. Here's an excerpt: This uncritical approach certainly doesn’t describe all the bishops, and probably not even the majority. If the bills are...

Rick Santorum is a two-fisted kinda guy--which is why GWB's machine preferred Specter. (That worked out real well, eh?) Oh, well. Santorum reminds us all why QueenNancy and her Bloody Court Jesters think they can ram through the Abortion-Enablement act : ...Santorum added that it shouldn’t be a surprise that so many Catholic politicians ignore what the Church is saying. He said that for too long...

I'm with Andy. I really can't stand the kind of argument Derb reprints below. Most of the time it's offered, it strikes me as borderline bad faith because it simply fails to acknowledge the other side's core principles and assumptions. By the same logic, euthanasia is quite obviously profamily in that it alleviates struggling children and grandchildren from the burden of caring for their aging parents....

My cat, Rusty has been in questionable health this past year, having developed diabetes and the neurological damage that can accompany the disease. When his condition deteriorated rapidly this past week, we rushed him to the vet and was forced to seriously consider euthanasia. The need to make a life decision on the spot was traumatizing, to say the least, and in the end, we decided to take Rusty home...

J.M. Keynes thought, in the long-run, if the principles outlined in the General Theory were applied, that a situation could transpire when wealthy investors living off unearned income (rentiers) would cease to be an important part of the economy. They would no longer be able to gain large amounts of money in interest from their capital, since capital would cease to be as scarce. It would, though, in...
