Despite getting negative feedbacks for its performance being unable to match its stylish exterior, the current Alfa Romeo 159 will not be replaced until 2012. No one will question the car’s amazing looks but due to its aging, Saab-based platform, it doesn’t have the chops to give out a great performance.

As a direct result of Fiat ’s control of the Chrysler Group, the two companies are integrating several of their processes and so now we come to hear about their concrete plans. Alfa Romeo is said to make a rear-wheel drive replacement for its defunct 166 executive saloon exclusively in North America, where most will be sold.

Alfa Romeo ’s 159 range will be getting two brand new Euro V compliant engines — a 200bhp direct-injection turbocharged petrol unit and the 170bhp 2.0 JDTm, a new common rail diesel unit. The new Alfa Romeo 159 1750 Tbi, which takes its name from the classic Alfa Romeo 1750, gets a 200bhp direct-injection turbocharged petrol unit.
