We nearly missed it, and we appreciate Hemmings Auto Blog for reminding us today is a most momentous day: The day, 50 years ago, when the 1959 Chevrolet El Camino was introduced to the public. That's right, today is the birthday of that most quintessential of truck-cars, the one which acts as the butt of half of all redneck jokes ever conceived, and which we maintain a preternatural love for. Sure,...

Nothing says "classy new carpets" like a 35-year old Chevrolet El Camino pulling up in front of your house... And two men get out, flicking their still-lit cigarettes into the street... And dispatch the cords constraining the rolls of carpet with well-oiled switchblades. Top drawer!

It is a sign of the times that the craziest thing I have seen this week was not Daryl Hannah licking surplus fuel off the petrol cap (or whatever she would call it) of her 60s-era Chevrolet El Camino.

Pontiac has announced it will begin selling the Holden Ute, a car-based pickup much like the sporty haulers that Americans had known years earlier as the Chevrolet El Camino and Ford Ranchero.

"We used to drive Thru Lafayette and Baton Rouge In a yellow El Camino Listening to Howling Wolf..." -Lucinda Williams -"Lake Charles" If you grew up, as I did, in the U.S. in the you probably have fond (or other) memories of the Chevrolet El Camino. You couldn't go far in the American South or ...

Today on the excellent cars blog Jalopnik I read a post about the choice for their final entry in their “fantasy garage.” If you've ever read Jalopnik, you know they have a thing about the Chevrolet El Camino, a vehicle that was part car, part truck. So it wasn't much of a surprise that they [...]

Though many have been entered and some have been trimmed, we have only one space left in the Jalopnik Fantasy Garage . One more bay into which we may slide any dream machine we can think of. To this point it has been a journey of discovery, history, humor, debate, outrage and delight, but still there remains only one spot. This final place has been reserved in our plans for a long time though. Despite...

I love the exterior styling. It is so sleek and unique (but old fashioned). We have it for more than a decade now and I am experiencing problems with it. It is basically parts that are needed to be replaced because of age. But its a great car in its time. Related Links: chevrolet el camino , chevrolet el camino parts

It's been about 20 years since the Chevrolet El Camino passenger car/pickup truck was sold in the U.S., but GM is planning to resurrect the concept for the 2010 model year under its Pontiac brand. Why now? Why Pontiac? According...

Here is one car I just don't get. General Motors plans to bring the pictured Pontiac G8 sport truck from its Australian Holden operations to sell in the states. It's a throwback to the old Chevrolet El Camino that was killed off in the late ‘80s. It should have stayed in the ‘80s and so should this car. Still, GM plans to sell it here in late 2009. It'll come with a gas-hogging and road-ripping 361-horsepower...

Once again, Denver's own Kitt has found an interesting vehicle parked on the streets of her city, and had camera in hand to capture it for use. Now, this might actually be a "big-block" El Camino (with a 267 or 305 or even a six-banger) under the hood, but then you figure there's no point in doing an emblem upgrade on a total beater, right? For that matter, it might not even be a '67, despite the...

Even though Alameda is home to numerous street-parked Chevy El Caminos, I've been guilty of overlooking examples of GM's truckcars so far in this series, with just this '72 so far. That's probably because I consider the 1959-60 and 1964-67 models to be the only "true" El Caminos, for reasons that don't stand up under any serious scrutiny. So, with Maximum El Camino Day as inspiration, I'm going to...

We know the upcoming Pontiac G8 ST may be the closest thing to a reborn Chevrolet El Camino, but we can't help drawing ties to the ‘ute whenever we look at GMC's concept for the Chicago auto show, the Denali XT. Or if not the El Camino, at least some GMC-badged version of it. Sprint, Caballero; you make the call. No, there aren't any styling cues that trip our memories into a retro-hazed flashback,...
