DETROIT — Dodge is dropping its fastest, most powerful small car for the 2010 model year. Due to increasing demand for its most fuel-efficient products, Chrysler Group will add 850 workers at the Belvidere, Ill. plant to act as the second shift for its Dodge Calibers . The second shift will begin work on October 5 and will enable the company to produce 10,000 more Calibers this year.

Chrysler and Fiat are planning to make their presence known in China. Reuters reports that the two companies intend to find a Chinese maker to build something on Chrysler’s C Platform, which underpins the Jeep Compass and Patriot, and Dodge Caliber. The past two years, Chrysler was observed scrambling to enter a tie-up with other carmakers.
