Driver hurt after making u-turn at intersection

A driver of a white Dodge Neon suffered major injuries Monday night when it made a u-turn in front of oncoming traffic and was struck by a pickup truck at 24th and Oak streets, Bakersfield police said. The Neon driver who was not identified was taken to Kern Medical Center. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, police said.

Pedestrian Struck on Connecticut Ave.

View Larger Map There's some early reports that a pedestrian has been struck by a vehicle on Connecticut Ave. NW near Nebraska Ave. NBC4 says that Connecticut is currently closed between Nebraska and Fessenden, and that the car was a white Dodge Neon. Police radio reports indicate the victim died before EMS reached the scene. We'll update when we know more.

At about 4:30 p.m. Monday, a Department of Public Safety officer stopped a 2003 Dodge Neon at 99th and Grand avenues for having a broken windshield, said Bart Graves, a DPS spokesman.
