The photos today of the Ferrari 308 GTB rally car combined with the VW Thing (which rallied against the Allied Forces) got us thinking again about rally cars. Anything can be a rally racer, whether AWD/FWD/RWD or even 6WD. From the diminutive Kia Rio to the insane Suzuki Escudo, anything can be rallied. Anything... Just look at today's DOTS retrospective . Would we rally a Porsche 356 ? Yes. 1977...

We've never heard of the Scandinavian speed shop Makela Auto Tuning, but we want to be their best friends. These guys are rally and exotic car aficionados of high order, and loving documentarians of their craft. As such there are over 200 images on their site of the transformation of a run of the mill Ferrari 308 GTB into a rip-snorting FIA Group IV spec rally machine. Our only question is why this...

This time the budget Ferrari is facing the heavyweight...

We know, we know. The real duelists in the 1980s were the Countach and the Testarosa. We know. However, this is the Lost Jalpa Weekend , so we gotta go trolling through the second tier of 25-year-old Italian metal. You know, the mid-engined variety with traverse mounted V8s. And look what we done found! In the red corner, we have the Ferrari designed after the oil crisis, originally selling in Italy...

Mercedes SL's were as thick on the ground as mascara on an over-the-hill movie star. The teenaged scions of the local glitterati drove brand new BMW 320i’s and VW Cabrios. A red Ferrari 308 GTB was de-rigueur for the up and coming producer. If you simply HAD to have attention or score the prime valet-parking spot, a Rolls Royce Corniche convertible was the winning ticket. And what was I driving down...
