I just saw on the news that Congress is planning to vote on a bailout of the auto industry next week. Once upon a long time ago I was a dedicated Ford man. Several things happened to change that. 1) I bought a brand new Ford Maverick. As I recall, in less than one year the car was rattling! 2) Something in the driver’s seat of another new Ford broke, dropping me backwards into the back seat. Although...

A Ford Maverick in the color known as "Anti-Establish Mint" Remember the Ford Maverick? No? It was a forgettable car from the 1970s that sold well in its era, but never made it into the 1980s. Trying to be "too cool for school,"the marketing geniuses at Ford sold the car (and no, we are not making this up) in the follow colors: Anti-Establish Mint, Hulla Blue, Original Cinnamon, Freudian Gilt, Thanks...

Fords biggest competitors, mainly the Japanese brands, have already introduced, or plan to introduce compact SUVs into China. The domestically made Kuga would need [...]

Don't forget, though, that the Maverick first hit the showroom floor in pre-Malaise 1969; I've...

Here's another type of car that used to be everywhere , but that seemed to suddenly disappear from the road at some point during the 1990s. I found this example parked just down the street from the red '61 Plymouth Valiant , and it's in decent shape and a 2-door to boot. The Maverick (and its Comet siblings) sold in huge numbers during the first half of the 1970s- it was fairly small, got decent gas...

In our last What To Drive In '75 episode , we saw the 1975 Ford Maverick Grabber beat the 1975 Oleg Cassini AMC Matador in the poll. Today we're going for an all-import matchup, though it's a classic GM-versus-Ford contest as well. The Opel Manta and Ford Capri were bitter sales rivals across the Atlantic, and both had sufficient sales in North America that they were not unfamiliar on our shores....
