Welcome to Down On The Street , where we admire old vehicles found parked on the streets of the Island That Rust Forgot: Alameda, California. You know, after 379 vehicles in this series, we've had just one Jeep, and that was a 2-wheel-drive mail-carrier's DJ5 ? Oh, sure, we saw this 1945 GPW 'Jeep' , but that was built by Ford! Meanwhile, we've had five IHC Scouts. What's the deal here- is Alameda's...

The whole point of going all the way the hell down to the most remote point of land on the East Coast is to be able to drive around on the beaches, scare children, run down plover nests and suchlike. An early offering was a garage kept 1985 Jeep Wagoneer. With 110,000 miles on the clock this Jeep has the AMC 360 V-8, the tacky, yet traditional, faux...

I’m a huge fan of the project car. Probably because I can usually find them for less than $500 and it's always fun to have a new toy. My latest acquisition, shown above, is a stunning 1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. It's got a running AMC 360 V-8 and one of the power windows works. With only a few minor things to fix, it could see the streets again before the 2008 North American International Auto Show...
