With 427 HP on tap, the 750i ActiveHybrid concept just revealed by BMW ahead of the Paris Motor Show isn't exactly going to appeal to most treehuggers. The concept's more along the lines of the Mercedes S400 BlueHYBRID and the Lexus LS600hL — looking green without in any way being green. Of course, while it may share essentially the same mild hybrid system as the Mercedes, the BMW has a throbbing...

The Mercedes S400 BlueHYBRID (note the use of all caps here, to let people know IT'S A HYBRID!) takes the exquisite S-Class and makes it into a Lexus LS600hL -killing eco-smug limo. Starting with a 3.5-liter V6, a hybrid drivetrain with a 20 HP electric motor and lithium-ion batteries specially developed for automotive use are added. Altogether it makes about 299 HP and produces just 190 grams of...

2008 Lexus LS600hL The Lexus LS has gotten a bunch of flack from us journalists, mostly because it's so distant and removed that its driver's relationship with the road is no closer than its passengers'. As much as I love drivers' cars (and, oh do I ever), Lexus never pretended that the LS was to appeal to enthusiasts. The LS is supposed to appeal to their antitheses - people who don't want to be...

I disagree with every review of the Lexus LS600hL ever written. Categorically. To a man, my colleagues misinterpret the most expensive Lexus as a misguided planet-saver that doesn't deliver enough mpg to justify its sky-high price tag. I view the ultimate hybrid as better driving through science. In fact, despite the dorky "hybrid" badges uglifying the LS600hL's flanks, Lexus didn't build this beast...

From The High Life to The Hybrid Life Taking a Lexus LS600hL on the quest for "Hybrid Living." I grew up in a home where the refrigerator was stocked with Miller beer and Velveeta cheese. For us kids, fried chicken was fine dining. Vacations found us in the cheapest roadside motels, and to obtain full value, we decamped in the morning with every sliver of soap and as many pillows as my mother could...
