At an auction last week, two rare 720bhp Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR supercars were bought for more than £1 million. These two cars were included in the 26 examples (20 coupes and six roadsters) of the GT1 racecar-derived machine that were made for the road in the late 1990s.

Included in Daimler AG’s budget to spend on its German manufacturing plants for the years 2009 to 2010 are plans to spend 600 million euros ($895.9 million) to expand its compact car plant in Rastatt , Germany. Mercedes-Benz A- and B-class cars are being produced at the Rastatt plant that had opened in 1992.

For those folks who don’t know, Mercedes-Benz was preparing a shooting brake version of the CLS four-door coupe but something happened… the financial crisis came and it appears that the German manufacturer put the vehicle on hold.
