We shared favorite VW ads our favorite vintage VW ads, but what about the other German car companies? You can tell that Porsche and Mercedes-Benz were just itching to start showing triple-digit speeds and tire smoke in their ads when Ronald Reagan finally 86'd those Malaise Era restrictions on hoonage in car ads. Sorry, Audi fans, we'll have to find some good vintage ads for you next time (though...

What you see above (center) is one of the most well-engineered “Franken-cars” of all time: a factory-modified 1980’s era Mercedes-Benz 190 diesel, stuffed with the company’s latest BlueEFFICIENCY CDI engine, which makes more than double the horsepower and nearly three times the torque of the original 1988 D. How far we’ve come in 20 years! More photos, and MBUSA’s...

Yessir, I sure do love visiting the junkyard, and all those Junkyard Find posts have resulted in some photographs that look snazzy as computer desktop wallpaper . We provided wallpaper images for your phone , but there was a troubling lack of junkyardness in those choices. So, I've picked out some of my favorite rusty, crusty junkyard shots and resized them to fit the most common monitor resolutions...

While the W110 Mercedes-Benz is known for longevity, some owners don't care enough to keep theirs alive. At that point, the lucky ones get a shot at racing glory . The un lucky ones? They end up at the self-service junkyard, which means they get a month or so to be picked over for parts before being fed into the cold jaws of The Crusher; the remains are then shipped out of the Port Of Oakland to China....

My experience running the 2005 One Lap of America in a Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16/ had left me more than a little cynical about the event. The fantasy of running the "modern-day Cannonball" had been eclipsed by frustration with the quasi-time-trial, horsepower-obsessed reality that is OLOA in the modern era. Still, the competitive disease from which both I and my co-driver Brian suffered meant...

For most American enthusiasts, the Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16 will always live in the shadow of the mighty E30 M3. Although Mercedes was first to the sixteen-valve party, the US variant of the “Cosworth Benz” was slower, more expensive and infinitely more staid-looking than the iconic four-cylinder Bimmer. History’s verdict regarding the two cars is written [...]

While Team Unsafe At Any Speed will be bringing a '65 Corvair to the Arse Freeze-A-Pa-Looza 24 Hours Of LeMons next month- thus snarfing the coveted Ralph Nader theme- they'll only be tying the record for Oldest LeMons Car Ever, since Team Field Find's Mercedes-Benz 190 was also a '65. Not only that, their car is safe at some speeds, because by '65 the Corvair had a Communist-mandated IRS rear instead...

In time for the summer of 1955, production of the four-cylinder-engined 190 SL sports car was begun at the Sindelfingen plant. Designed as a sporty, elegant two-seater for touring, the car, internally designated W 121, rapidly acquired great popularity, also and especially among the ladies. Initially, only a roadster with soft-top was available (price in 1955: DM 16,500). It was joined in the fall...
