The jaw-droppingly steep price tag, automatic transmission, and ARBOUR GREEN paint of the '56 Jag made it an unassailable Hell Project fortress, giving the XK140 an easy win over the '58 Mercedes-Benz 190 in our last Choose Your Eternity poll. Was it fair to force a Benz to go toe-to-toe with the product of a PCH Superpower? Maybe not... so today we're going to give Germany another shot at unseating...

We had another close one yesterday, but the '69 Crown managed to edge out the '59 Datsun in the race to the Lake Of Fire in the Choose Your Eternity poll . We've seen some pretty affordable cars lately (well, affordable to start with, before you start buying parts), but what about Hell Projects that raise the pressure in the boiler by starting out with gut-punch price tags? We showed you Team Field Find's 1965 Mercedes-Benz 190 race car during the 24 Hours of LeMons race, but we didn't mention that the team went on to win the coveted People's Choice award. Sure, the old Merc wasn't very fast around the track, but it kept slogging along in its stolid Teutonic manner while other cars blew up or wiped out... and it looked great doing it.
