Filed under: Safety , Crossovers/CUVs , Buick , Chevrolet , GMC , Saturn The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety took some GMC Acadias and smashed them up to see how the big crossovers hold up against immovable objects, and unlike recent tests conducted for the Chevy Equinox and Pontiac Torrent , the news is positive. An AWD Acadia SLE acted as a stand-in for all of the Lambda models - Buick Enclave,...

"Pontiac is ... car." And car is rebadging. Ipso facto. The Pontiac Torrent, G5, and G8 are blatant dirty rebadges. The G6 is a bit more unique looking, but same deal. And now... the Chevy Aveo! I mean Pontiac G3! The 2009 Pontiac G3 is listed on the fed's fueleconomy.gov site. Judging from its 1.6-liter engine, four-speed automatic, interior dimensions and 25/34 mpg, a rose by any other name will...

Give the Chinese automakers some credit, at least they're starting to mix the sources of their latest designs. In this case we have the Faster SUV from truck maker Huanghai, which starts out as a Pontiac Torrent and then slowly fades into a Lexus RX . To confuse matters even more, the Faster is powered by a Mitsubishi 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. So that's Lexus, Mitsubishi and Pontiac. If only...

There have been some rumblings over at Autoblog surrounding the replacement of Pontiac's badge-engineered Torrent sport utility. Citing a report from Automotive News , the site claims the Torrent is superseded by a GMC Terrain in 2009. This makes some sense, as with the upcoming launch of the G8, the division's looking to focus more upon passenger cars. But wait - is that the same GMC Terrain (above)...

Automotive News has stated that the GMC Terrain, essentially a Saturn Vue sold in Kuwait, will replace the Pontiac Torrent. Expect to see this occur for the 2009 model year. From my standpoint I think this makes sense. CUVs seem better suited for GMC than Pontiac, so I have no problem with this move. Full story here .
