When you've got 66 mighty horsepower clattering under the hood, you know no chains can hold you! Does the Renault 18 chained up in a Roman amphitheater symbolize some sort of Italian-French automotive rivalry? And how many clutch discs were destroyed during the filming of this ad?

It all starts with a beam of light fired from the taillight of an '87 Renault 18 located in an Argentinian art gallery packed with jittery stimulant-inspired sculptures. Next thing you know... well, something happens, and a security guard isn't sure what to make of it. Thanks to Franzouse for the tip!

Remember the Renault 18i? Maybe if you live in Europe (where it was called the Renault 18, without the i) you do, but in North America these things disappeared without a trace. AMC had to sell Renaults as part of its deal with the French government; a fair number of Le Cars and Alliances limped off the showroom floors, but the other models (e.g., the Medallion ) were bombs.
