The tooling and design rights to the outgoing Saab 9-5 are likely to be bought by the Beijing Automotive Industry Corporation (BAIC), according to our sources. Recently, BAIC became a minority shareholder in the Koenigsegg Group, which is seeking to buy Saab from General Motors.

The 2010 Saab 9-5 will get its own hybrid version, the powertrain of which will not only cut fuel consumption and emissions but also supply a higher level of torque when accelerating. Saab said that it intended to bring an extra boost to the car however specs have yet to be disclosed. According to Autocar , the car will have a 1.4-liter turbocharged unit that will be assisted by a small electric unit.
