We knew the end of the line was near for the GMT360 siblings, but now the Detroit News reports the national economic collapse has accelerated GM's plans to kill off the Chevy Trailblazer , GMC Envoy and Saab 9-7X mid-size SUVs. The Moraine, Ohio plant that builds the old-skool body-on-frame trucks was down to one shift after originally being slated for shutdown in 2010, then early 2009. Now word comes...

General Motors will close its Moraine Assembly plant near Dayton, Ohio on December 23rd — earlier than the planned 2010 closure. The plant builds the Chevrolet TrailBlazer, GMC Envoy, Isuzu Ascender, and Saab 9-7X. Less than 80 days away, the closing will mark the demise of all four models. With Isuzu pulling out of the U.S. [...]

What we have here is the Chevrolet TrailBlazer SS wearing Saab nomenclature. What we don't have here is a Saab. The TrailBlazer SS is arguably the best of the General Motors SUVs using the GMT360 architecture, but it is simply and emphatically not the starting place for the next great thing from Saab. If GM hasn't learned the difference between Saabs and light-duty trucks by now, it is never going...

Filed under: Detroit Auto Show , Spy Photos , Cadillac , Saab Just days after we got word that Saab is working on a new crossover with Cadillac, what appears to be a development mule has turned up. The mule carries the bodywork of a Trailblazer from the firewall back and a Saab 9-7x at the front. Closer inspection of the photos reveals details that this machine is not a GMT360. The front wheel wells...

Saab surprised us at last week’s event, not with tremendous new offerings, but with slightly altered versions of existing models. Even more surprising was the fact that we were impressed by the cosmetically altered 9-3 sedan and wagon, and not...

Forget for a minute the Saab truck's humble midwestern upbringing. Pretend there's no such thing as a Chevy Trailblazer that gave its hide so a Swedish SUV may live. Sure, a luxury SUV without a luxury platform underpinning it is at best a sophisticated pimp job and at worst a job for the Better Business Bureau. But before we give the open hand to Saab's largest, let's remember Lexus RX buyers rest...
