Op-Ed Contributor - G.M.’s Secret Success - NYTimes.com I agree with the basic premise of this piece that not all is rotten in GM. For example, I rather like some of their recent products -- design and execution (Chevy Malibu/Saturn Aura, Solstice/Sky, Cadillac products). I won't go so far as defending CEO Rick Wagoner, as the piece does. The one detail that jumped out at me: The company has made enormous...

As strange and absurd as it may sound to our North American readers, the new Opel Insignia is sold in China under the Buick Regal nameplate. And how about here in the States, we hear many of you asking. Well, the Insignia was supposed to arrive in the form of the next generation Saturn Aura in a year or two, but GM's economic woes have reportedly...

Just before the Detroit Three presented their loan guarantee/bailout proposals to Congress, Motor Trend learned that General Motors would shift Opel’s design language from Saturn to Buick. Now we know why. In the short period between the credit crisis beginning in mid-September and the Capitol Hill appearance in December, GM hatched a plan to weed down [...] Copyright © 2007 World Auto News & Reviews...

In a moment that makes us want to put on our most pensive face and say "Yes that's profound", Bob Lutz has said "It's really much better to have fewer brands, do it well and then market the hell out of them." Specifically, he's talking about the fact that a car like the Saturn Aura -- Saturn's take on...

July 2008: I trade-in the decrepit family mini-van, complete with enough McDonald's french fries under the seats to make my own Happy Meal, for a new 2008 Saturn Aura. Why Saturn? Because GM finally seemed to get the mid-size family car right. Good fuel efficiency, good quality, nice-looking. That and...

2009 Chevy Malibu LTZ This is the comfortable, contemporary boulevard cruiser from Chevrolet. I've driven my family's 2009 Saturn Aura - more or less the same vehicle as the Malibu - equipped with the same four-cylinder/six-speed combo as this Chevy. I wasn't all that impressed with the Saturn , so I wasn't expecting to be pleasantly surprised by the Malibu. Photo Gallery: 2009 Chevy Malibu LTZ -...

Having replaced Saturn's L-Series, the Aura has been set loose to do battle in the tough midsize-sedan segment. For 2009, Saturn has improved the Aura's fuel economy, but will that be enough to make it competitive? Cars.com's Mike Hanley offers...

The Times of London has a test of the new Vauhall/Opel Insignia, possibly destined for the US as the 2010 Saturn Aura, and the Mondeo-fighter apparently isn’t living up to the hype. What is the Times’ biggest beef? The beef, apparently, as the Insignia weighs a hefty 3,300 pounds, some ten percent more than the [...]

2009 Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer Though the Insignia may become the next Saturn Aura, this handsome variant will likely be left behind in Europe. The wraps officially came off the 2009 Vauxhall Insignia four- and five-door models at last month's British Motor Show in London, but GM's saved this - the 2009 Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer - for October's Paris motor show. Late in the 2008 model year, General Motors slipped a six-speed automatic in the four-cylinder Chevrolet Malibu. Innocuously marketed as the “Spring Edition” and only available as a no-cost option on the top-end LTZ model in exchange for a 3.6-liter V6 hooked up to the same six-speed, it’s unlikely anyone other than those shopping for [...]
