Volkswagen has released details of the 2009 Phaeton. The luxury barge isn't exactly unrecognisable compared to the current model, but: "the switch illumination that is now white throughout instead of red," so that's something you'll be able to brag about to those 2008 Phaeton owning paupers...

A book I wrote got a sniffy review on Amazon the other day. I considered tracing the amateur critic and posting him some waste matter and a copy of my next book as a punishment, but after some moments' reflection, I decided to look on it as a blessing. A shitty review is a useful thing for someone like me who takes cheap shots at inanimate targets like cars every week. Unlike book or film reviewers,...

Volkswagen is pinning its hopes on the new-generation Phaeton, which follows on the footsteps of its slow-selling predecessor. According to Germany's first-quarter sales numbers, the Phaeton sold 45% units more than during the same period of last year, which augurs well for the future.

By all accounts, the Phaeton limo has been a major flop for Volkswagen and nowhere has it performed more badly than in the U.S. where the decision to drop the car came just two years after its launch. However, VW execs in the U.S. have expressed interest in seeing the flagship return on several occasions [...]

Many Jalopers have a special place in their heart for W12 Volkswagen Phaeton (and we know a certain journalist with a pair of V8 Phaetons). And while we like the Passat CC up close, it doesn't move us in the same way. So that makes us happy to hear that Motor Authority is reporting that VW's chief Stefan Jacoby mentioned that it was a mistake to end the Phaeton in North America and that it could make...

The Phaeton limo may have been a major flop for Volkswagen but officials are keen to the launch of a successor. The car was priced similarly to BMWs and Audis but it wore a humble VW badge, and there was nothing particularly exciting or innovative about the car either. It had mundane styling, poor dynamics [...]

Some enthusiasts are still making jokes about the Volkswagen Phaeton and how huge the gap was between that car and a Passat when it came to the U.S. Well, for Europeans at least, there will be a new model that slots in between the Passat CC and the Phaeton. The move will likely add credibility to the Phaeton and also help Volkswagen get to the rather lofty sales targets that have been created. We...
