Last year I had a lovely day out at the knitting and stitching show organized by Twisted Thread so I was looking forward to this years one. I was planning to go on Thursday and meet up with some ravelry friends but alas I was struck down with a cold. I recovered enough to go to the show on Sunday. It seemed to be a good idea as the crowds weren't so bad and I got to meet a friend there too. There was...

I gotta tell you, we had a GREAT time last night at the Atlanta Knitting Guild! There were probably 100 people there and they are SO INVOLVED in so many projects in the community it was really inspirational to see! You can read more about their charity giving HERE. Everyone was so nice and seemed genuinely happy that we had come to speak. I always enjoy telling our "Knit Witch" story! We did...

I’ve been wanting a new sweater – I feel like I haven’t finished one in ages! It’s kind of an illusion though, because mostly I just haven’t been knitting winter-weight sweaters. But it’s getting cold again so off I go. After a lot of fine projects, these 5mm needles go super fast! I’m working up a [...]

Some days I get no mail, some days the postmen are on strike. Yesterday the mail arrived at 4.30pm and was not worth the wait. Today however was different..and a little spooky. I got two lovely postcards through my letterbox this morning (and 'hooray', Patch did not eat them!). The spooky bit was they were both from Hawaii ..from 2 different people, who don't know each other. Even more coincidental...

It was interesting to see your different reactions to the mountain of UFOs sitting in our bedroom . Some of you have similar piles and are just fine with it. It gave the OCD sufferers among you serious agita. And some of you sent encouraging emails, even assuming (HAHAHAHA) that the plan was actually to finish them all. O, if it could be so! But alas, you credit me with too much discipline. My plan...

Today's charming knitting sensation is this Vintage McCall's Fall/Winter 1957-58 Needlework Magazine , apparently aimed at the modern college student. Uh huh. I understand that the 50's college kid is a totally different beast than today's college kid, But some of this stuff is...questionable, for any 18-22 year old. Unless 5-year-olds went to college in the 50's, then yes, this magazine is ideal....

The Chris Brokaw Guitar Trio with Alan Licht/Greg Kelley/Sean Meehan The Knitting Factory October 8, 2009 The new Knitting Factory is a transplant from the old downtown Tribeca location to this new space in Brooklyn's Williamsburg district. It might seem superficially out-of-the-way, but it's only two stops on the subway out of Manhattan, followed by a five-minute stroll...

Walter Reed Hospital, 1918 Shorpy gives us a photograph of recuperating soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital in 1918 with World War I still blazing in Europe. I imagine that these wounded soldiers are knitting for fellow soldiers. (Knitting for soldiers was also the presumption of critics of Knitting in Highbridge Park by George Luks.) The sight of wounded men knitting highlights the therapeutic effects...

Today was my day off, AHHH! Had another lovely visit with Mum and we did some holiday scheming together. She's working on some ornaments that are so cute I can't stand it! I'm sure she'll blog about them eventually, so I won't go into to details, all I can say is HOLY knitting CUTENESS! I continued to work on my niece and nephew's memory game sets . I already cut out the cotton backings a few months...
