A town councillor for Falmouth, reacting to the news that Rick Stein has applied to extend his foodie empire to the Cornish town, states "we don't want this town becoming 'Falstein'." Oh really? Padstow (where the chef has several outlets already) has been nicknamed Padstein because it's, er, a pun – which doesn't work for Falmouth, as the more quick-witted of you will have worked...

[Images: Mr Paparazzi / Big Pictures Words: Samuel Nathan] For the last month or so Russell Brand and Katy Perry have been rubbing our faces in their love affair all over the world – well just LA and London really. Anyway, the pair were doing much of the same when we spotted them in Dublin on Friday, where Russell had jetted to in order to appear on the Late Late Show (where we also spotted fellow...

Regular readers of my blog will know that I love a good cookbook. My shelves sag under their collective weight but still, like every addict; it's never enough I want 'more' and 'better'. Which is where my latest acquisition comes in, because it certainly fulfils both requirements. COCO is a beautiful, weighty, glossy, large and rather sleek book. It is the first of it's kind, in as much that it is...

Aztec emperor Montezuma welcomed Hernán Cortes into Tenochtitlán with a great celebration in 1519. That worked out well for him, didn't it? The Bodleian Library opened to the public in 1602. The Louvre was opened to the public as a museum in 1793. Wilhelm Röntgen discovered x-rays in 1895 and the death penalty was abolished in the UK in 1965. Born today: Vlad the Impaler (1431-1476),...

Put a shouty man of a certain age in charge of something important enough for long enough – a nation at war; British domestic security; the F-Word kitchen – and before you know it, he's a national treasure. Or at least that's what seems to have happened to Winston Churchill, Harry out of Spooks, and Gordon Ramsay, who's from that special breed of middle-aged male broadcasters that everyone...

I was watching "Master Chef - The Professionals" the other day, and noticed something about Michel Roux Jr.'s way of motivating people. It's the same as Gordon Ramsay in "Hell's Kitchen". And in a way, it is similar to the tactic seen in "Generation Kill".Basically, it's to push push push the subordinate, but if it looks like they might snap, encourage them. Which is a...

Katie Price is "filthier" in bed when she's sober. The glamour model - known as Jordan - opened up about her sex life during an X-rated appearance on Gordon Ramsay's "The F-Word." As she prepared a meal of chicken kiev and mash, Katie told Gordon: "People say that if I'm sober, I'm better, well-performed in bed. More filth should I say!"

That’s what you get if you don’t listen on Hell’s Kitchen. 27-year-old New York sous chef Tek got the boot for being stubborn. She obviously had a problem on the grill, but kept on insisting that she had everything under control. When Hell’s Kitchen host Chef Gordon Ramsay started sending back steak after steak after steak for not being the right temperature, we pretty much know that it’s goodbye Tek.
