Firstly a little background information for those who have no idea what they’re looking at right now! Macarons are a traditional French Pastry dating from the 1830s. The re-invented double-decker macaron filled with ganache or buttercream gaining popularity today was developed by the popular French pâtisserie Ladurée a little more recently. Making macarons at home has [...]

I've got a Paris assignment... And it does NOT entail taking off for Paris... Immediately! Dommage :( Instead I am to run all over New York... And shoot all the windows and that's what I've been doing the past three nights... It's kind of fun too... Especially since I keep bumping into New York dogs... These pups don't mess around. They take up a lot of space... We like things BIG in New York, or le...

I thought a little Almondine Bakery action might be in order for your Friday. Thus far I've shown you merely one little photo of a baguette end. Almondine recently opened a second outpost, this one, thankfully, in Park Slope. In a few short weeks this place already has proven to pose a serious threat to my waistline. Almondine makes perhaps 200 baguettes each day at their main location in DUMBO. About...

We over indulge with many of the seafood dishes and the pasta is apparently freshly made daily. The prawns are nice and large and there's...

If you like your cakes rich, full-bodied, comforting and indulgent, then Patisserie Rui isn't the place you're looking for. However, I can see why many are heading over to her cute store at Mon't Kiara. Her dainty cakes reminded me of those found in Japan, not only were they pretty to look at, but they're fluffy, light as a feather and virtually guilt-free. Perfect for those who are afraid of "heavy"...

Nadeje Patisserie, at G-23 & 25, Jln PM4, Plaza Mahkota, is a cosy cafe that occupies two shop lots in Malacca. It specializes in mille crêpe, a French cake made of many crêpe layers. "Mille" means "a thousand" in French , implying the many layers of crêpe used. But don’t go into Nadeje, expecting to see a 1000-layer cake. You won’t find any. Here's...

If David Cameron is to set up a review of the "straight jacket" of health and safety rules on the basis of urban myth, and individual misinterpretation of risk then I fear for worker safety ( Report , 1 December). Reported figures for last year are that 229 people were killed at work, 137,000 were injured, and thousands more died of work-related illnesses. It is obvious that there are employers...

My festive cookie run continues, and this time, with thanks to Donna Hay . As always, I've been inundated with egg whites and since I'm still avoiding macarons and meringues, I happily stumbled across this recipe. I don't normally cook from Donna Hay but if it will help put a dent into my growing stockpile of whites, then I'm all for it! If you like chewy, nutty, spicy and not too sweet (because you're...

OK, forget everything we've been chatting about of late... Today we're going to make couchon /pigs of ourselves. At L'avant-comptoir 3 Carrefour de l'Odeon 75006 Paris Metro Odeon. Open 12h - 23h. Combination of Dark chocolate, milk chocolate, white chocolate and chocolate biscuit base. Overall this is quite a good deal for $6 however I am personally a "pure-ist". I think the combined taste of the 3 types of chocolate fail to satisfy my chocolate craving. Further the overall texture of the chocolate was very sticky and the white chocolate kind of tasted like cheese. Fen felt that dark...
